The Australian is indicating that Peter Neville should be in the mix to replace Haddin along with Wade

After yesterdays effort, our under 12 keeper is in the running.

His batting is also poor, averaging only 21 in the past 12 months.

His feet don't move when he bats, he is trapped on the crease. His feet don't move enough when he keeps and, again, he is too far back as pointed out by others.

I don't understand the thought process in keeping him in the side. He is painfully obviously on the decline. We play for the Ashes in England in 18 months I think? Surely he won't be there.what not put this time into someone else like Wade or Nevill. It's madness.

This whole NSW thing comes from the media.

The NSW media mafia spruik their own every chance they get.

Phil Nevill FFS! Just because he made 100 a few weeks back?

He is actually Victorian. Played about 18 first class games and averages 50. He moved up there 3 years ago for more opportunities (which he has got). I don't think he is as good as Wade, but he is no mug, and certainly better than Haddin. Dan Smith is better than Haddin FFS.

I think Neville is as good with the gloves as Wade but it's questionable if he is with the bat.
The indication from the Australian article was that Wade could take over for the limited over games and Neville for the tests. It still sounds like to me that Paine is the preferred test player in the eyes of the selectors.

Moving to NSW is certainly a good career move - Katich, Watson, Hauritz and now perhaps Nevill.

Chris Rogers stuffed up big time.

Hasn't helped my career a lot, still haven't had a call up.

The Herald Sun and The Age are working their butts off trying to get Wade selected because they fear this is the only opportunity to get the Victorian keeper in the team before Paine get over his finger injury and takes his place in the side as Haddin moves out.

Hopefully the selectors stick to their guns and not be blindsided by Melbourne newspaper bias and await for the promising Paine to be ready.

Why? How does one justify a Test spot be held by a non-performing player just to keep it warm for an "anointed" player who has been injured for months and has no recent track-record to speak of?

Here I was being old-fashioned and thought that Test spots had to be earned. Wade has nearly hit more Shield runs this summer than someone like Dave Warner has hit in his entire first-class non-limited over career, so would be a more than competent bat. He is also a FAAAAR better wicket-keeper than Haddin.

There is nothing wrong with putting the best candidate available in the team and making others earn their spot -- we've seen how well it's worked with our bowling attack, and it's hardly damaged 'dressing room harmony' or bowling combinations. Paine should not be put into the team simply because he's the "anointed successor". Anointed drop-ins with no form to speak of (Marsh et al) don't work, smack of favouritism, and make a mockery of the selection process.

Maybe, you, like the selectors, need to get over the anti-Victorian bias, because it's getting old. The fact Pattinson (or Cummins, for that matter) wouldn't even have gotten a look-in if NSW love-child Mitch Johnson didn't get injured says it all. The Aussie Test team should thank their lucky stars for our boring 'Shield level' players Siddle (who has been under-rated for years as just a good honest toiler) and Pattinson, both of whom, with Hilf, have been two-thirds of the most consistent Test pace attack we've seen in years. You know, sometimes selection doesn't have to be that complicated. Just pick the guys who are doing the business, even if they aren't that sexy, exciting, or have been anointed for the Test team since they were 15.

(Conversely, drop the guys who aren't doing the business, even if they are sexy, exciting, been anointed for the Test team since they were 15, are Punter's or Clarke's mates, or have a Vodafone or KFC ad contract.)

I don't get this at all. 6 innings this year in the shield , 1 hundred, 2 fifties and a 50 against NZ in the other match. Averages more than Paine in the shield, has more hundreds than him and is younger.

Wade is not some young nobody that has started playing well and thus has the Victorian biased media behind him like others have. He is a guy who has already represented Australia, Australia A, went to the AIS, the Centre of Excellence, has produced for 3 straight seasons now in the Shield, batted well under immense pressure (09 Shield final).

Paine has not played a game since July, has already been ruled out for the entire season and his career is in jeopardy. He doesn't deserve to have a spot held for him and Wade or Neville (good in his own right this last 2 seasons in the shield) should be the keeper in the next test.
