Tough game against Newcastle away for us. They have very good strikers and our defence needs to be on song especially Rio who's career is very much going down a similar path like Sol Campbell.

You don't think Rio was at fault for any of Tottenham's goals do you?

I don't think its entirely him but for one of the goals Tottenham scored looking at the highlights Rio could have done better in that instance. Hopefully this weekend we can keep a clean sheet and get a win. If we do that then that's a very good result for us especially up in Newcastle.

nah Rio wasn't perfect but fullbacks were terrible. GNev went nuts at them.

Neville certainly had a very different interpretation about what actually happened on Saturday to the popular one.

"People will say Rio Ferdinand's lost the pace, a yard of pace," he said. "Maybe he has. But I think he'd have struggled in that position five or six years ago, I really do.

"He's the one who's going to take the hit, because he's that involved. He's the one who's chasing [Jan] Vertonghen. He's the one chasing [Gareth] Bale. He's the one who's taken the hit. But there are four or five mistakes on each of those goals.

"Rio Ferdinand is a great centre-back. He's a quick centre back. Still quick. Still quicker than Steve Bruce. He's still quicker than Tony Adams. He's still quicker than John Terry … but how many times do you see those players isolated one on one?"

This is when Neville turned to the performances of Rafael Da Silva and Patrice Evra, barely able to conceal his displeasure at the way the two full-backs had exposed United's centre-halves. "You [full-backs] can go forward, but you've got to get back in quickly. You've got to get back in quickly. You've got to understand the pace of the players you're playing against. [Aaron] Lennon and Bale will run past most players, at any point in their prime. You've got to tuck in alongside. Attach the two full-backs to your centre-backs.

"Rio's taken a lot of stick because he was involved in all three goals [against Tottenham], to the visible eye," Neville said. "Honestly, to play centre-back on Saturday would have been tough. They didn't play well, Rio and Jonny [Evans]. There were times they were too deep. The movement from Tottenham was fantastic, they were up against quick players … but your back four has got to get in place. That was the problem on Saturday with the three goals — the gaps were huge."
Daniel Taylor: England's assistant coach Gary Neville saved Roy Hodgson a job this week when he marked Rio Ferdinand's card for him on Monday evening

highly recommend watching the video. GNev is an excellent analyst. I could never understand why he was a good defender as he had no real qualities that stood out but he understands the game so well. All makes sense now

It's ludicrous Mata can't even get in the squad for Spain.

Looking forward to our next game, away to Spurs. Should be very interesting.

I would have him replacing Cazorla, Martinez or maybe Etxebarria.

But on further investigation I see he has been given this and the previous friendly off as he didn't have any off season rest.

Have you been watching him play over the last few weeks?

Carzola's a gun and he's having a purple patch ATM-it'd be a brave move to drop him. Having said that from a purely selfish Arsenal-centric POV I'd love him not to line up for Spain this week (Is it this week?)

His goal on the weekend was a cracking effort.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Very good win for Man Utd. That is confidence boosting for us and we also keep a clean sheet.

EPL back this weekend after the internationals

We have Stoke City at Old Trafford. Stoke are a very hard team to break down and very hard to beat. At Old Trafford I think will win but would not be surprised if they get a point. If we played them away they would fancy their chances more.
