Not easy beating a team with 12 men in it.

The last 5 years of Shiek whatever his name is they've forked out 500 million quid .
The last 5 years United have spent a million or two more than Stoke!

They weren't a start up sporting team, but they also needed a lot of very good players brought into the squad in a short space of time, while United have just needed to top up. How many of the original players remane from before the sheiks time?

I wasnt talking about the last five years, I was talking about current squad costs and the facts are Uniteds squad cost nearly as much to put together. City may have spent a heap, but they also spent it wisely on very good players who fit together and now all they need to do is top up as well.

Beat me to it and said it better than I would have anyway.

Pot kettle black when it comes to Utd fans, many of my Utd friends echo the same thing Remi. You haven't needed to spend that much in recent years because your squad's already been at the top, but you've spent a hell of a lot to get there, as most clubs at the top of their league do.

Beckham, Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville , Nicky Butt, Lee Sharpe, Ryan Giggs we're bought in for next to nothing . United's success generated its wealth, City's wealth is generating its success . Different era but it is something that cannot be denied

Wealth also generated that success. Weren't J.P. McManus and John Magnier the Sheik's of their day?

I read somewhere that Uniteds first team in the early 90's was worth £11mil, while most others teams were worth £1-2mil

Didn't a lot of Man Utd's wealth came from when the club was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, followed by three more floats of shares in 1992, 1994 and 1995.

Apparently it generated something like £360 million which was a vast sum of money in that day. If you were to translate that in today's figures allowing for inflation it's apparently £748 million.

Every big team buys success. No one could complete with United financially(and with Fergie) which shows in their trophy cabinet.

                  This.

                  To suggest otherwise is ludicrous.

You're right,United did buy players (some bargain signings)but the squad in 94 onwards was built on the youth they got in. Beckham was basically a licence to print money overseas in particular.

Also to suggest it was SOLELY because of its finances is complete nonsense.
The squad in the mid 90's was on the back of names I mentioned earlier.
I'm not denying for one moment United didn't use it's financial clout in the transfer market, but the premise that success was built on money is just wrong.
If you visited overseas ( Asia) in the 90's and witnessed how many Beckham shirts you saw you'd be shocked.

I am surprised at how well that's worked for them. For every Chelsea in the World there's ten times the Leeds and Rangers that go belly up in debt after a financial 'saviour' comes along. They have made some astute purchases.

Especially when one of those 12 has sent your captain off for having a shot.

Bad result for United. Jose and Juan might be back together quicker than they planned.

Why would we buy him back?

I know what your getting at but that's just ridiculous. Lol.

Moyes is talking nonsense when saying they were " unlucky"
If we're sitting here in 12 months in the same situation he'll be unemployed.
