You could just about fit your foot in one of those. The only argument I could counter the English whinging with is it's the same for both teams.

How do you prevent this from happening in the future?

I know let's ask mother nature to only allow the temperature to get to 25deg during the Perth test.

With the amount of searing heat in Perth during the test, the pitch on day one would have needed to be greener than an Irish moss to last the distance without cracking up. Given the circumstances, it has been a good test pitch - Poms have already made 331 in the 4th dig without too many alarming problems.
