Is Shane Watson the best option at number 3? His 749 runs at 41.61 are easily the best figures any of the candidates have put forth since Ponting dropped down

I think he is which probably says a lot about our batsman. He is probably a better opener than number 3 anyway

Disappointingly, it looks like the Aussies have swept the Pakistan series under the carpet like it never happened. Listening to the Clarke presser yesterday, he pleaded for everyone to remember the Ashes and Sth African series wins when asking to asses the last 12 months - that's all well and good but we also lost an Ashes series 3-0 away from home barely 12 months ago. Apart from Sth Africa where their pitches are very similar to ours, we are not coping well away from home in recent years.

He also said in his presser immediately after the game that he had hoped the team had learnt the lessons of their 4-0 thrashing to India but obviously hadn't and it is something the team must take from this tour

To be fair the 3-0 Ashes defeat was a lot closer and more competitive than the score line suggests.

Interesting to see that New Zealand are now copping the same treatment, Pakistan have just smashed them in a canter by 248 runs

Didnt NZ just play an ODI today? Did the test match finish a few days ago? Or have NZ got completely different test and one day teams?

Been a jam packed schedule for the Kiwis. This was the first test of their series against Pakistan in the UAE that just concluded. Prior they played South Africa in some limited overs games at home.
