Re: 1st Test v India - Adelaide Oval
You could see it, something very real in these times. I remember when Teddy passed and we didn't offer a whimper the next game. It's one thing to say we are going to play for a beloved team man, but three close NSW mates going big and 500+ in the first innings speaks more than any words can. Smith's tribute will be iconic over the years.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Clarke's back is a major concern and may lead to him taking an extended break to fix it.FFC: Established 1883

Not sure but there were unconfirmed sightings of Stephen Dank leaving the Aussie dressing rooms.
Seriously though:Incredibly, round the clock physiotherapy from Alex Kountouris and four injections saw Clarke return in a back braceComment

I'm no doctor but with 3 degenerative discs no amount of rest is likely to fully fix his back. All he can do is manage it as best he can. He will likely require some sort of rest to get it back in working order of course.Comment

Johnson's head doesn't look in this so far. Early 140kph half volleys, nothing short, nothing aggressive. If he doesn't work things out he loses the majority of his armoury and we're back to the Johnno of old.
Harris looks to be at his probing best thoughComment

Re: 1st Test v India - Adelaide Oval
Not a bad day for the attack no matter what the scoreboard says.
I thought Lyon was really good, on another day against a different side he could have had 4 or 5. Lots of bounce and some big turn will get him excited for tomorrow and Saturday. He has to continue over the wicket, it's where he was threatening.
Johnson eventually warmed to the task and it was no surprise his best spells were notably aggressive and pitching half way down, his spell pre lunch which produced the wicket of Vijay was the best of the match. I'm not sure whether he was sedate early due to the past fortnights events or whether it was a mistake by Clarke bowling him into the wind with the new ball. I think he'll take more time than most to get his head right but the more bowling he does and the more batsman he gets ducking without injury the better he'll be. Hitting Virat Kohli can only be a good thing in my mind, it needs to become normalised in his mind again.
Harris was Harris, the length was impeccable as always and his speeds were good. Looks to have not missed a trick.
Siddle was apparently sick but he'll need to prove something over the next few days if he is to keep his spot. His lines were all over the shop, his speed was okay during his first spell but dropped away quickly and the Indian batsman treated him with seeming contempt. It's harsh but if Siddle is the workhorse of the attack these are the pitches we need him to grind away for 20 over a days conceding 2.5 runs an over and keeping things in check. He looked like a guy without weapons today, no pace, no bounce and no movement. You wouldn't write him off on a pitch that may go up and down on days 4 and 5 but Marsh was far superior and looked the front line seamer.Comment

Don't mind Lyon as a bowler, but we need a decent leggie to be honest.
Wicket looks a batting paradise and although you see 3rd and 4 th innings meltdown, you'd be hard pressed not seeing a draw here.Comment
