Was shattered for Kruse, I hope he is ok he is a damn good talent. Swindon Town turned down 2 mil for Luongo, they obviously knew what he can be. To be honest I'd never heard of him until the Cup started. But the list goes on, we had a top WC and didn't get our best side on the park well I already can't wait for the next one.

I think the Confed Cup is next? Can't wait!
Kruse must be the first player in history to be booked for rupturing an achilles.

Mass was immense all game. Great talent. Can only imagine what offers Swindon Town will field come the end of the season.

      Bring on the confed cup.

Yeah, I barely unclenched. Was a great win but never vaguely comfortable.

Great win from our national side. Winning a continental cup like the Asian Cup is certainly big and is right up there with our achievements in the 2006 World Cup and the 2005 World Cup play offs.

How does this win compare to our World Cup performances etc. over the past ten years? Better, worse, can't compare?

This is better for me. Germany 06 was a better team, but this is a better achievement.

Germany 2006 was an exceptional tournament for us. Arguably the best game I've ever seen from a Socceroos team was the 2-0 loss to Brazil in the group stage of 2006 - we were magnificent in defeat and actually out-played Brazil for large parts of that game. Only a poor defensive error in the first half and then a goal on the break in junk time when we pushed everyone forward prevented us from getting a significant result. Our performances against Japan, Croatia and Italy were no less meritorious, against some seriously high quality opposition. The great irony of 2006 is that we were 1-1-1 in the group stage, identical to our 2010 effort, but the 2 tournaments were poles apart in relation to the quality of our play - Verbeek had a dream squad to pick from and made us play a horrible, one-dimensional game style.

But this result, considering the youth of our squad and coming from so far back in terms of rebuilding in such a short space of time, not to mention the pressure of hosting the tournament, was right up there in terms of impact as 2006. Of course we were lucky to avoid Japan in the SF, but South Korea are a very strong team in their own right (not many teams can qualify for 8 WC's in a row) and played to their optimum and we were still good enough to get over the line on merit. There is so much improvement in our squad and the manner of our game style is a pleasure to behold.

Actually considering the task at hand, the huge turnover in players, the massive inexperience of our team and the short space of time for Ange to impart his game style, I thought our performances in the first 2 games of the 2014 World Cup were unbelievable (except for the first 15 minutes against Chile). Forget the Spain match - it was a dead rubber.

We should all be proud of our national soccer team for their achievements in the Asian Cup, and be very excited by the opportunities in the future.
