    Re: Following our ex's...................

He was given the 'Game Breaker' highlights package on the AFL website. On what I saw, rightly so.

He was superb. Read the ball beautifully, held some great marks and competed well against Patton.

Also had a couple of key involvements in the last two minutes.

At one point Dwayne Russell quipped "he's been played out of position for 9 years!"

To be honest I'm absolutely rapt for him.

Clearly 2017 Liam Jones is another Fine Cotton scandal.

Geez a lot in here said to play him back and he'll prosper. One game and all but I wish we tried it out.

I've never had anything against Liam and always thought the bagging of him since he's gone was pretty ordinary. He was a hero in a pretty special day for Doggies supporters, I'll never forget that. I sincerely hope he can back it up and find his feet as an AFL footballer.

I think we played him once or twice in defence. It wasn't pretty.

The Blues out of desperation seem to be on the right track, having given him weeks in the reserves to get some form up.

It really was playing the last lot of chips at the casino after a losing all night. If they can get back some of their investment after doing very little for 32 months, more power to them and to him.

I was really happy to see him take Patton to the cleaners. Did a superb job. I'm one of the guilty ones who bagged him often mainly because he could never kick a pressure goal. Liam has done well but he's got to be more than a one trick pony. Punching from behind is not that hard. He will need to take a lot of marks as I'm not sure his ground game will cut the mustard down back when thr pressure is on. But good luck to him. Just don't do a Jon Ballantyne when you play us Liam.

Good luck to Liam. He has copped a roasting from every angle his whole career and from a football sense it's probably fair enough. Personally though it's probably hard to take and I'd say he must have grown a pretty thick skin over the years. I was upset when he snubbed us to go to Carlton and I've loved how it hasn't worked out for him in my own selfish one eyed bulldog way. But I am actually rapt for him to finally be on the positive side of some press and form.
He must have figured out that you have to be pretty fit to play AFL footy. He couldn't string 2 leads together without blowing up when he was with us. So if he is playing in defence and is constantly chasing down forwards his fitness must have improved 100 fold. Well done Carlton, well done Liam.

I am happy for him. His kicking out of defence was excellent too. If he can turn his career around it shows he has resilience in buckets.

Yeah I'm stoked for him too. It's fair game to have a joke about him, but in all seriousness the amount of vitriol AFL players cop for being bad at AFL is pretty stupid to be honest. I'm loathe to credit the "he's played more AFL games than you" line of thinking with any credit whatsoever, but when you move from valid criticism (Jones runs under the ball, only ever marks on his chest, is *not really* a competitive beast) into unmitigated berating (YOUR A ******* IDIOT JOENS *chugs Delicious Pot of Carlton Mid*) then it really is quite apt.

Playing in defence used to be pretty straight forward. It was as simple as punch when you see a head. But now it's a bit more complicated these days with zone defences trying to do away with the third tall and the desperation to get good ball users down face.

Once defending was easy, you'd just send a deranged lunatic like me to try and intimidate them off their game. But now you have to know what you are doing.

Oh please let that happen. Liam getting a contract and Carlton signing a dud for another couple of years would be ideal from my POV. I love Liam and hate Carlton.

Me too. As I have often pointed out to you. Liam Jones is Footscray premiership hero Liam Jones and I will blokelove him forever for giving us that flag.

Yep we did and Liam get torched because he didn't understand what he was doing. Liam Jones is a talented player, take the time to explain what you want him to do and he's proven he can do it.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
