It's a fair approach... but would a 2nd grader be that bad? If it gave the coaching team more confidence to back the defenders so we could play a less high press and give up less easy out the back goals?

can’t see any key Backman available so looks like it’s Lobb, JOD, Buss and Gardner next year then.

I will never see #16 the same!!

Unfortunately the AFL isnt like European football where you have 1000s of clubs to poach from, like we have 17 and there's **** all available at any of them.

May as well give Jones another season.

Yep I’d be keen on getting involved on this, we should have enough collateral with 33, 37 & buku’s pick, as well as Marra, to get a deal done for this.

I really love that range of the draft this year, going in with 14 & 15 would be a decent result.

Collingwood star Jordan De Goey raised as potential last-minute trade option

It’s that time of trade week where the wild swings start happening with Collingwood star Jordan De Goey the latest name to be raised as a possible last-minute option.

Rival clubs are aware that the Magpies may be open to discussing a potential trade for their match-winner although with the clock ticking down on Wednesday night’s deadline there has been no firm suitor.

Collingwood’s age demographic with its list is an obvious issue which is why De Goey’s name has been floated even though there is nothing formal from the Pies who would be seeking a first-round pick for the premiership hero.

The Pies want to regenerate their list but don’t have many players with strong currency to put on the trading board. A fit and firing De Goey may appeal to a club who believes it is in the premiership window.

The 29-year-old, who is on around $800,000 per season and contracted through to the end of 2027, had an injury-interrupted year but was pivotal in the Pies upset victory over Adelaide in the qualifying final.

De Goey could be a late thought for a club like Hawthorn should their pursuit of Essendon captain Zach Merrett fall over.

And Melbourne might also have an interest in bringing him in to join teammate Brody Mihocek who joined the Demons last week.

The Demons are likely to have multiple first-round picks to play should the Christian Petracca deal with Gold Coast go through as expected in the next 24 hours.

They will need midfield back-up given they’re also selling Clayton Oliver to the GWS Giants although the deal has yet to be thrashed out.

De Goey has previously been linked to St Kilda who came hard for him in the 2022 free agency window but after lengthy consideration he rejected the offer.

If we see some natural improvement in Buss & JOD.... a big pre-season in the gym is a must, and we don't bury Lobb through an unsustainable workload which we did in the back half of 2025 then I feel that this trio can be ok... but they will definitely more help up the field than they got this year.

I have no hope that Gardner can be anything other than a good VFL player.

As much as we need a KPD, I think we'll get more defensive improvement from a tighter defense up the ground and defenders who can defend the ground ball.

Of course a Harris Andrews would be great. Or even a capable interceptor. But there aren't many around.

So long as he has a sound medical, I couldn't jump fast enough at bringing in someone like De Goey on $800k a year. He's 29yo and an elite finals game-changer who just makes things happen. He has every explosive mid/forward covered in the competition over last 10 years except for Dusty.

It all depends on his medical - he needs to be razor-sharp physically otherwise avoid.

Carlton and Sydney are considering offers now for Curnow. Looks like Florent and Hayward have agreed to the move.
This might help us get a bit more for Khamis but you never know.

Sydney offer pick 11 a F1, Hayward and Florent for Curnow and a late pick.
Carlton should accept that and well done to Sydney for stumping up.
This opens up a few options for Khamis.
With two first rounders next year they might now be willing to part with a F2.

Yeah, if Curnow is willing to go there, I’d reckon that’ll work for Carlton. Swans willing to find a way of getting players on board, while the Cats muck about.

Either the BF ITK is off or the AFL are keeping this as deadline drama

I don't doubt this. We wouldn't have delisted Liam Jones if we weren't looking to bring in someone equal to Jones in his prime.
Perhaps we have a quiet long game for a KPD? Perhaps not a 'star', as Tom Morris does tend to inflate and dramatise. A solid, dependable KPD with composure for the lads to learn around would be wise.
Someone 'like' Butts and someone like Derksen as backup. We saw how Jones being injured and or out of form left us exposed.

Apparently Tarryn Thomas is available to be picked up again. See if anyone is tone deaf enough to pick him up. Can’t see it.
