If Geelong get Curnow, I'm about ready to give up on the AFL.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.Comment

I don't want Aleer, but if we did trade for him it could be no higher than a second rounder.Comment

I'm not buying this ''The club plans to back JOD and Buss'' line I keep seeing thrown about. Why did we go after Wilkie and SOS if we planned to back in our younger defenders? To me it reeks of ''We can't or aren't willing to go big for what we need so...''
If we go into next season with just Budarick joining our defense, personally I'll be writing the season off before it starts, call it pessimistic but I have seen literally nothing to convince me that Buss / JOD / Lobb are the backline that will win us a premiership.
With JUH's 900k off the books I'd be trying my damn hardest to pry Butt's out of Adelaide, the fact that it sounds like we've thrown it in the ''too hard'' basket really has me perplexed as to what we are doing as a club."Its always good to win the Ashes test match'' - Libba, AFL Grand Final, 2016👍 2Comment

I'm a bit confused by this narrative that Butts is the answer. He has played about 50% of games over the past two seasons (behind Mark Keane, who hasn't missed one despite being not very good). Why are we so convinced he's good? I feel like a lot of fans have just convinced themselves, because there's been a rumour for months that we're interested, that Butts is an a grade KPD. If we've asked the question and the Crows have either said no or "we will need your first rounder for him, straight swap", then I'm okay with our choice.👍 1Comment

We offered Wilkie a huge contract. We offered Silvagni a reasonable contract. We have no doubt contacted others in the background, including Butts.

I would love a genuine upgrade, and I think Butts would be a great option more due to the fact he’s different from what we have. But I think the fact that we’re only going for quality, ie Wilkie who is a clear up grade on most in the comp, or Silvagni who was a free hit at a good price (had we got him) shows more that we are in fact comfortable with what we have. Obviously we’d love to upgrade and I don’t think anyone can say we haven’t tried, the market is just super thin.
put it this way, has a better key defender than what we’ve got moved clubs? Maybe Silvagni which is debatable and we know the circumstances behind thatComment

What is further bullshit corruption is the AFL have now "tweaked" the rule that you must use two first round draft pick across a five-year period.
The AFL have scrapped that rule which has allowed Geelong to offer three first round picks for Curnow.

I wonder what our team are thinking when it comes to KPD, we seem happy with what we've got but why not bring in someone who fits either one of these options-
Young recent draftee with future limited opportunity. - Give them the confidence and development opportunity to make a career. They're stuck behind too many players IMO-
Luke Lloyd - Brissy player and from Sandy Dragons with limited opportunity with the premiers. Pick 42 from 2023 draft which has shown it can produce talent from deep.
Noah Mraz - Hawthorn KPD drafted in 2024 with pick 35. With Barrass and Battle coming in, there's not much room for younger KPD to develop. Take a punt on a kid drafted within the last few years and give them the belief they could break into this side.
Or Bring in an experience body who's isn't getting a game but has plenty of backline and AFL experience -
Tom Doedee - Retrictied free from Adel and didn't play much this year, is 28 and is from the Geelong so come home factor an option? We didn't pick him up when he owas a free agent but he's not going to get an opportunity. Worth a look?
Jake Kolodjashnij - Zero games in 2025, Geelong's back is deep with KPD (Stewart, OSullivian, De Koning, Henry) does he play ahead of any of them next season. He's 30, could be good experience for the younger pups.
Maybe we look at Jed Bews, not as a key defender but to help stabilise us behind the ball.More of an In Bruges guy?👍 1Comment
