A trade taking Ollie Florent to Carlton has been agreed independently to a trade for Charlie Curnow. The Blues will send the Swans a future third-round pick for Florent.

Hawthorn is in talks with Carlton on a pick swap for the Blues’ pick 22. Bundling up picks, including the pick 42 they just got for Jiath from Melbourne, to see if they can get 22 from Carlton. Then the likely look would be 9 and 22 gets thrown at Essendon…

If Carlton get 42 then perhaps we end up with that for Buku? One pick worse than the initial offer of 41.

“The Western Bulldogs won't be paying a cent of Ugle-Hagan's contract at the Suns, which is no more than $250k and a combination of on and off-field triggers for a second year.”

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, hopefully this doesn’t have an asterisk of ‘because they settled a payout already to end his existing contract’ and we’re officially off the hook of his 900k contract. Especially given we’ve already paid him to not play or train for a year now

I’d hope we get that 33, if we take 42 after knocking back 41 we’re officially a joke at the trading table as far as I’m concerned.

Obviously not fussed about 1 place, but the principal of knocking back 41 and taking 42 isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement for our list management!

            We already have 33?

The problem is if they trade out 22 they will be left with 10, with their next best pick being 42 so they won't have anything else to offer other than an additional later pick or a future pick. Of course if they end up trading Curnow they could end up with some extra capital.

Is 31 too much for Buku? I doubt they hand it over on its own, but it would be nice of them

31 sorry, I think they also got a pick in the 30s

                  Currently they have these picks:

                  Carlton: 10,22,54, 67, 72, 87, 105

If they were to get 31 from Hawthorn that would great, but it seems optimistic for Buku and we don't have anything of value to give back in this draft with our next pick after 33 being 70.

We are usually quite tough to deal with for opposition clubs when it comes to contracted players. I don't think we move on Buku unless it is for pick 31.

Great deal? I don't really worry about a few picks either way but you could argue that as a contracted player pick 41 is slightly unders.
I think sometimes clubs just delay things for too long over fighting for a few picks either way rather than getting on with it but maybe that's what is required to unlock other deals.

If we go back to last year, by holding strong in the Bailey Smith deal we got that extra pick that meant we could bring in Matt Kennedy.
It's really as easy or as simple as it seems but it doesn't always need to be that complicated.

I will say that whilst I’m a bit disappointed we haven’t been more active to fill holes, so much is riding on Butters. If we really are that confident that he will be coming next year then I can understand the club obviously holding off on moving future picks and being more reluctant to overpay this year with our first rounder when it might be the last time we see the top 20 of the draft in a number of years.

In that case it’s understandable, IF we miss out on Butters then in hindsight it’s going to look pretty bad on our behalf but I’m confident we get that done, and if we do then I suppose I can live with one quiet offseason…

I will say we maybe could have been more aggressive with Silvagnis contract as a free hit, realistically how far off were we from trumping the saints, a couple hundred k per year? We’ve got that much cap space it may have been worth it.

but anyway, a lot riding on Butters. I hope we can use Buku and our picks to potentially get 33 into the top 25 and then two decent picks in a range that I like, along with Darcy & Budarick isn’t the worst considering we’re not really going backwards at least like we have in recent years!

To me it is, im guessing our coach wouldn't rate him in the top 30 on our list and hes only contract as we are pretty generous when it comes to our depth.

                          Take it and run.
