Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
Here's a little comparison between Shane Edwards and Jack Billings. The latter's poor disposal efficiency highlights a clear difference between the two and so is contested possessions. Of course the other thing to remember is one plays for an ordinary team with a dysfunctional system, whilst the other plays for a top team that is extremely well drilled.
I know stats don't tell the whole story, but they do provide some insight. If Billings tightened up his disposal efficiency and managed to win a bit more of his own ball, then he'd be elite.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Billings is Wingard-lite IMO. Very nice player but I'd prefer to aim higher."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
Billings is potentially getting better with reasonable upside to come. Their past 2 seasons have been about equal but does Billings plateau or does he become elite? That's the question.
There's some Stringer style questions about Wingard, was elite early in their career but hasn't recaptured that sort of form again. Stringer looks unlikely to again while the jury is out on Wingard.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
I always saw Billings as a Shaun Higgins clone, but then Higgins went to another level and Billings has stagnated.
I wouldn't be offering pick 7 without something very attractive coming back our way.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

He's only 23, so still developing his game and body. He'd want to be hitting his straps now though.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
The argument of their respective value could be made in relation to their trajectory. Wingard's best footy was 3 years ago and his last 2 years have been largely mediocre. Did he have two ordinary season or is his form line permanent?

Higgins kicked 2.2. in the first quarter of a final for us IIRC, it was injury and continuity that were his biggest enemies.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

It's entirely possible that Wingard may never reach those heights in the future and that Billings could. i just think Wingard has more gears in his weaponry than Billings."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
Wingard's first 50 games were as good as anyone in modern history with the possible exception of Judd. Billings hasn't come close to that level, which is not to say he can't or won't in the future. But on what has actually been achieved I would have Wingard as both a much safer bet and a better upside prospect because he's already scaled those heights.

Am I misremembering? if indeed his goalkicking has always been a struggle then I would be very cool on this, however if it is more form driven and a symptom of playing in a poor team, I could live with us throwing our hat in the ring. A late first rounder feels about right IF that is the case.Comment

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion
Just on Billings, is his poor kicking at goal a new thing in the last season or two? My memories of his early seasons were of a highly skilled player who was a smart finisher and a good football brain. Read Nick Dal Santo 2.0.

I know simple goals and behinds don't tell the whole story but it always seems to have been an issue.Comment
