Re: Proactive Poaching
He has. The original post (not in quotes) was two or three months ago. The point I was making there was if they sign all their other mature talls in Sam Day, Rory Thompson & Peter Wright then there's a chance GCS might consider a very, very good offer to let him go. They signed them all as you point out. They might still refuse to listen to trade offers anyway, but now they know their spine is contracted and if they fear he walks next year for less, maybe take a very good offer now. Or not.
But 'A King Martin Trade' would cost us a heap. A couple of mid first rounders and someone like Wallis would be a minimum.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Proactive Poaching
Our best player and contracted captain, and a top 10 pick. But in A King Martin Trade, I mean for Ben King & Jack Martin. Say we can juggle things with GWS that involves our 2020 1st swapped. For argument sake, say those picks are 12 & 14. I'd expect GCS to demand both those picks and a mature player. I'm not sure Williams would be enough. They'd want a best 22 midfield leader, Swallow said that today. They chased Wally last year, maybe they nominate him? If there's a lot of Vic sides chasing King, the price will rise too.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Then from 2 smalls from Martin, Hill, Tippa, Langdon (his disposal is too ordinary after watching him the last few weeks)
King, Tomlinson (both are flexible talls)
Martin, Tippa (Hill at $800,000 is huge & Papley rumours seemed to have gone quiet, so Tippa)
Fit them all in the cap with a few list moves out.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Proactive Poaching
Both if they're gettable. The question is more picking two talls from King, Tomlinson or Keath.

Re: Proactive Poaching
We are selling our first rounder in a sellers market. Yey!
We are buyers of mid to later rounders in a buyers market. Yey!
Next year it's better not to think of draft pick numbers, but to think of a draft points number, say 2,500 points.
If we can sell off good picks, trading down in the first round and maybe second, depending on the flows back could still deliver us 2,500 points. So all is locked in. But if we used these future trades to help us secure better top end picks this year, then we win twice using the system to full measure. We go up the order this year, or more likely gain multiple firsts this year, and still get all that talent next year with 2,500 points made up of a cache of mid range picks.
The timing is perfect.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Proactive Poaching
Major, major opportunity this year and good for flexibility. The article says other clubs want to get high up (like our first) and many clubs don't rate later picks next year so may let them go a little easier/cheaper.

Re: Proactive Poaching
Suns don't need/want more picks and first year players, they need younger versions of Hodge NB inside mids.
You all want King? Fine but he is under contract.
If the Suns ask in return for Wallis and Libba, what's your call? The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.Comment
