It really doesn't bother me that Bonts didn't win, it's a nothing award and it was to be expected but god i hate how contrived they make these things. There's no doubt in my mind that they sit around and decide what order the votes should be read in to try and generate some excitement which is completely nullified by the fact that the presenters already know the winner and do a terrible job of making it exciting at all.
Just further proof that the afl is sports entertainment more than a sport in my mind
I don't mind it in the Brownlow. Needs to be an investigation regarding a leak though. What were the betting fluctuations on Taylor today?
At the end of the day its an award judged by hacks contrived by the useless media who think games are won based on possessions. Lucky for us games of football are not decided this way so lets just see how Bonts career plays out
No shock Gillon and Mark Evans had the expansion market player at the top, that's 7 of the last 9 winners from interstate clubs.
It's as contrived as everything else in the AFL, merely a marketing opportunity masquerading as an award. And they wonder why people in Victoria are walking away from the game in droves.

I find it excruciatingly painful the way the brownlow votes are read with unnecessarily long pauses especially if a player happens to have the same first initial as someone who the votes might be important to, so cringeworthy, just read the votes already.

Taylor apparently came in from $7 to $2 today, from being out at about $15 about a week ago. Once the media ball starts rolling, it doesn't stop.
I know that this award is baseless, but that doesn't lessen my anger. It's an opportunity for brand exposure lost, just like it was lost with Chris Grant losing the 1997 Brownlow, us losing the 97 prelim, the 09 prelim, Griff losing the 2005 rising star, Tom Liberatore not making the All-Australian squad last year, Murph not making it this year, getting 0 Friday night games, the list goes on! Any other team and they don't get half the shitty treatment that we lie down and cop from the AFL. Imagine if it was us who were in the position the Bombers are in! We would have already been crucified by all and sundry. How do we become a force when we have a popular media declaring us 'irrelevant' and stripping our players of awards they clearly should have won. Lewis Taylor wasn't the second or even third best youngster this year - he was just the guy that the media propped up to challenge Bonts, because they needed someone to stop the horrible Western Bulldogs from winning an award. James Aish had a better year than Taylor, and so did Stringer, Langdon, Dunstan, Daniher, Merrett and Patton. I challenge anyone to objectively contradict that. He was just their 'tribute'. Everyone who cares about the future of our club should be incensed by this, not necessarily on its lonesome, but as a pattern of unfair representation.
Cameron Ling officially has NFI about AFL. Lewis Taylor NOT in the top 5, and Marcus Bontempelli only 4th best. What a flog.
And no votes from anyone for Jake Stringer or Joe Daniher, and only 1 vote for Josh Kelly. These 3 with Bont have the most upside of any of the players from this years' crop of nominees.
