I don't have a lot of confidence in the AFL but in this instance I think they would do everything the could to try and support and guide him

My only reaction has been, yep, that checks, no real surprise.

His management must be annoyed. After doing the rehab stint and going on that podcast to try and correct his image if he's still hanging around with dodgy blokes it doesn't really add up to much. He'll miss out on his mega deal he could have got from just about any club he wanted next year. Even if he somehow finds his way back that opportunity is gone forever.

Jamarra himself I'm guessing isn't that worried either way. Which kind of beings me back around to feeling bad for him. May genuinely be the best thing for him to be out of an AFL environment.

Football isn't for everyone and perhaps it's not for Jamarra but I do feel it would be better for him to be in the system and around mates who are aiming to play finals.
I don't feel sorry for him as such but he is clearly distracted by what other friends are offering him. I just hope he stays healthy and safe.

The issue with Jamarra is this has been going on for more than a year and he still hasn't given up on his dickhead friends

They probably identify with him really well and make him feel safe. Even if we think they're dickheads they for better or worse might offer a safe space for him to be whoever he wants to be right now.

If he really wanted to be a footballer and identified as one, then he'd probably identify and feel safer with his team mates.

Or they're very good at being nice to and taking advantage of the guy who seeks validation and just got 800k in his bank account with more to come...

Marra still seems very immature and kind to a fault. He looks to me like a puppy who wants everyone to be his friend. I worry for him that these people are taking advantage of his kindness and don't really care about him at all, but he'd prefer that to people telling him what to do.

When the money isn't coming in for the 800k lifestyle anymore, I worry about how his choices may escalate.

Overwhelmingly I am worried and sad for him. He's not a bad guy.

I highly doubt he's had $800K less tax dumped into his account all at once, the club/his management would be drip feeding it to him (let's say monthly at $39K a month which is still a massive chunk of change) and tying a fair bit of it up in investments. But I get your point.

To just assume he's being used is possibly a bit of a let off for mine. There's a fair chance that isn't the case and they're genuinely giving him what he wants and needs out of friends at the moment.

I remember seeing photos of Jamarra up north with Naughty and some of the others players having a great time and talking about culture. I thought what a great bunch of mates to be around.

And then he chooses to be with these low lifes.

When I was in London in the mid 70s, George Best, was the biggest name in football - always in the headlines for his performances both on and off the field.

One year Miss Workd was held in London. The winner was Miss USA, Majorie Wallace and George disappeared from football as he began an affair with her.

He was discovered in a Mayfair hotel with her and, so the story goes, one of the staff spotted a "Clean Room Please" notice hanging from the door handle.

So he entered the room to find a seemingly naked Majorie lying on the bed covered in £50 notes. The bloke looked at George and supposedly lamented: "George, where did it all go wrong?"

This was the report I read in a London tabloid so the words used may have been apocryphal. Majorie was sacked as Miss World. George carried on being George.

He famously said: "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds (women) and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

I share these anecdotes as a mildly humorous diversion from the sad tale that is unfolding on this thread.

It is really baffling to me that, despite all that has been done, there is still no resolution.

As for George Best the entry in Wikipedia is a comprehensive account of this extraordinary players life. He died aged 59.

Good point jeemak , it all boils down to where he feels safe and probably in his mind it dos'nt matter if his mates are dickheads or not ,to him they are his safe space , and concidering that he has come out on more then one occasion stating he dos'nt watch much football and dos'nt actually like AFL football , to him it was a way of getting to a certain space it may have been financially or mentally which ever the case may be , and now maybe in his mind he has reached that certain space and dos'nt feel he has the inner drive or motivation to continue with AFL football .
Right or wrong all of us as humans need to accept HIS decision , many of us may not agree but its not our decsion to make its his and apparently he has made it .
I just hope he finds peace in that decsion .

At what point is this a breach of his contract? If he's involved in this incident in any capacity at all, even by association, then he should be sacked. I understand the complexities with this, but we cannot possibly continue paying him into next year.
