Two top 10 picks and Garcia - it's a lot but I would sign off on that today. It shows due respect to Port/Butters for the value of their biggest asset, it gives Butters the chance to get back home a year earlier than planned (and if messaged right by all concerned it doesn't look mercenary), and it also gives Garcia a chance to cement his place at senior level with a suitor who was keen on him previously, and in a position that could at least fill a portion of the gap left behind by Butters. We could even get a couple of later picks coming back to us in 2026 to help with some points next year (if Port weren't going to use these).

I hope we are working behind the scenes to try and make something like that happen this year. Next year will be a total shit-fight that is best avoided.

Package up 10 and 28 this year for one of GC's top 10 picks.
Work the Khamis and JUH deals into some sort of mid-level pick next year, and package this up with our 1st rounder next year for another upgrade.

As always it comes down to the player. Is Butters hellbent on coming to us? If so it wont matter about other teams' offers.

Ultimately if Butters isnt 100% locked in on us then he wont come here.

I guess you could view it as missing the distraction, getting a kid or two in earlier to start developing, unlocking more pieces for their F/S prospect next year.

On the other hand Port supporters think it'll maybe be like Bergman and Butters will decide to stay after all

I do not feel sorry for any player who takes the big money and the long-term deal that the ink is barely dry on and then wants out. The club does, and should have all of the leverage in that scenario, and if the club does not get the mother load in return, then too bad, see out the contract, at least for now.

I doubt anyone actually knows the truth that is claiming to, but IF
Butters is 100% coming home, and if allowed, would 100% come home right away. Port is setting a poor culture and care for their people, by holding him to the final year of his rookie extension, in a year that is clearly a complete rebuild.
The deal will not gett better, maybe similar, maybe worse at the end of 2026, but never better.

If the dogs' offer is some garbage like pick 10, 28 and a future 1st, then that's on us, and not Port, just like it was on Essendon, and not the dogs re: Dunkley.

Butters needs to do some of the heavy lifting and accept some of the consequences that go with it.
If he really wants to move back to Melbourne this year and be a part of the Bulldogs then he needs to make a clear statement that he wants to come home now.
The Port supporters and even some of his team mates will react poorly to this but if he just sits there quietly Port will not be sufficiently motivated to even consider offers.
It's time for him to step up and make a clear statement.

I hope i'm wrong and we'll need to throw the kitchen sink to make any kind of deal for Butters this year but just can't see it happening, they'll simply refuse a trade plus by the sounds of it he seems like he's too respectful of a young man to push it (a bit like us as a club), plus the only way we could make it happen would be to get the Crows first rounder for Sanders and use that pick 14 with our pick 10 plus our first next year, would offer something like two firsts and a player like Garcia but just can't see Port accepting that, maybe two firsts AND Sanders., but i'm not sure we would or should do that.

Yeah this is the crux of it.

Would appear obvious he would prefer to be in Victoria, but if he wants to do it as soon as next year, he's going to have to be OK with being uncomfortable with a situation where he publicly requests a trade.

Not sure I see that happening. We need to be prepared to overpay to get it done now and not wait a year though.
