    Re: Assistant Coaches

What’s Bartel doing? He was one of the most reliable kicks I can remember, along with Aker and (gulp) N Brown. Omitting Tory D as I think someone said he himself was not sure he could impart how he kicks so well to others some years ago.

      Re: Assistant Coaches

There was an article this week about who is working in the private school footy system and one that jumped out was Paul Hudson coaching at Yarra Valley Grammar. The fact he is still working in football suggests he’d be worth approaching as goal kicking coach - one of the best kicks at goal we’ve had.
"I'll give him a hug before the first bounce and then I'll run into my pack and give them orders to rip him apart."

Does a goal kicking coach have to have been in the AFL as a player? Teaching technique is something different than being able to do it yourself.

I remember being in the Lions cheer squad in early 2001 at Colonial Stadium when Hudson kicked 8 will never forget that day. I'm pretty sure it was the Lions last loss of the season that year and they went on to win 3 straight premierships.

Did the roof at Colonial spring a leak that day? I remember that the rain was so heavy that the sound of it hitting the roof made it almost impossible to hear the person sitting next to you.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I’m disappointed you have not followed my campaign to pry Bartel away from the giants as footy director and bring him to our club as Grants replacement.

Thanks for update. I didn’t even know he was a footy director. Goal kicking coach out of the question. After his media stint I had no idea what he was doing.

He has been footy director for a number of years while doing media.
FWIW i believe he is now on 3aw and Footy Classifieds (well the season just gone).

Wouldn’t be putting footy classified on the resume.

The Western Bulldogs? AFL Football Department has been further bolstered through the recruitment of two roles in the key areas of high-performance and medical this week.

Daniel Duvnjak-Zaknich has been appointed as Head of Physical Performance, while Dr Anthony Hispley joins as the Bulldogs? Chief Medical Officer.

Duvnjak-Zaknich arrives at the Kennel with 14 years of experience in elite sport, spending nine seasons at the Fremantle Dockers as Head of Strength and Conditioning before moving to the GWS Giants as Senior Physical Performance Coach.

Prior to his stints in the AFL system, Duvnjak-Zaknich was a Head Lecturer at Exercise Research Australia.

Dr Hipsley is no stranger to the AFL competition either, having recently worked as the Melbourne-based match-day doctor for both the Brisbane Lions and Fremantle Dockers.

Concurrently, Hispley has worked as the Senior Sports Doctor at Western United in the A-League competition, while also consulting from a sports medicine clinic in Geelong.

Bulldogs? Executive Director of Football Chris Grant was delighted to appoint two high-quality individuals into vital roles within the football department.

?We are thrilled that both Daniel and Anthony have seized the opportunity to work at the Bulldogs, leading the critical areas of high performance and medical within our football department,? Grant said.

?Daniel brings a wealth of professional sport experience and will head up our strength and conditioning and high-performance areas, working closely with Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell, to prepare our AFL players for the demands of the modern game.

?As Chief Medical Officer, Anthony will work closely with the experienced Dr Gary Zimmerman, supporting our players with sports medicine, GP and mental health expertise.

?We look forward to welcoming both Daniel, Anthony and their families to the Bulldogs in coming weeks.?
                          State media tonight:

                          4) The Bulldogs love a late surge

The Western Bulldogs have put the competition on notice in the past month. When you have the ascendancy against them, make sure you create a gap on the scoreboard, because all the Dogs need is to be within arm's reach come the fourth quarter. Across their past four games, they have kicked more than 30 per cent of their score in last quarters, finding a new gear to run out games. On Friday night, the Dogs kicked five goals in the last term to run over the top of a seemingly in-control Collingwood outfit to claim a third win from their past four games. That desperate late effort is even more impressive given the injuries the club has suffered in the past two weeks early in games, leaving it down rotations for both second halves. Clubs need to make the most of their early chances to stop the Bulldogs from finding that late momentum. ? Gemma Bastiani
