Edge will be a big loss to the club. Good luck to him and wish him well

That's a great move for Alex Johnson.
      Thanks G.

Any insights into why he made a decision to go or where he is going?

Many thanks to Edge, all the best for the future whatever that may hold. What a way to go out though, on a high!!

The timing of the Luke Power appointment might have factored into it.
I believe Edge was going before the VFL GF and before the B&F.

To have Johnson ready and being replaced by Barry it really doesn't indicate it was a spur of the moment decision for Edge to move on.
It appears he was pushed just a bit and more or less eased into leaving.

There is a range of speculation I have heard, some indicating that Edge might have been a but difficult to work with to him being put out by Powers appointment to head up the development program. We would be lucky to find out specific details as the club does a mighty job at keeping things in house.

10 years is also a long stint at one organisation so I’m not surprised, regardless of the initial motive, that a decision has been reached.

Well done to him on all achieved and good to see Johnson step into the role of HC at VFL level. A good look for aspiring development folks to join our program.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Do we know if he's going to another club in the AFL or just jetsetting into something brand new?

Speaking of assistant coaches I see Paul Groves has taken the role of coaching the Williamstown VFLW team

Edge leaving shocked me a bit. But after reading through the informative posts it makes a bit of sense.

VFL coach wouldn't be the easiest role. I would assume it would get a bit frustrating having AFL listed players given specific roles or tasks, or restricted minutes ect. I'm sure there's times competitive juices kick in and you're wanting to pull some strings and moves to win the game.

Ten years at any organisation particulary a football club is a long time , for players to hear the same voice , and inn actual fact Edge himself may have become stale in the job , but whatever the reason for him leaving he certainly went out on a high , well done to the man and many thanks for leaving the club in a sound and strong postion .
Hopefully Johnson can carry on the stella work that Edge produced and be as sucsseful .

I would say that hasn’t been a problem with us , 3 flags in 10 years and a season that was called off when we were at 10-0 .
We would have the one of best development set ups in the AFL/VFL .
We also have had 3 different coaches in those premiership years .
We won our last 13 games this year also.

Well done Edgey. Having the team consistently near the top of the ladder has made the ups and downs of the senior team easier to bear.

Thanks Stuart Edge. The Footscray VFL team has been great to watch and ending on a high with a VFL premiership win.

Good luck Edgey in what you do next.

Good luck to Alex Johnson in the role as head coach of the VFL team and hopefully more success.
