    Stringer
    Dob: April 94
    Games: 214
    Goals: 367 ave 1.7
    Disposals: ave 13.0
    Honours: AA 2015, Premiership 2016, 6x leading goalkicker (4x over 40 goals)

    Degoey
    Dob: March 96
    Games: 173
    Goals: 203 ave 1.2
    Disposals: ave 18
Honours: premiership 2023, 1x leading goalkicker (48 goals in 2018)
Yeah I see De Goey as the evolution Stringer always promised but was only ever able to deliver for brief moments (2021 being the closest he got to that). De Goey became a genuinely impactful midfielder and goalkicker that played a big role in Collingwood reaching and winning the GF, Stringer had a good year and a half leading up to a premiership but limited impact in that last stretch (Hawthorn final not withstanding.)

De Goey has averaged over 20 touches every year from 2021 onwards (while still kicking about a goal a game) while Stringer since 2021 has neither the disposals (under 15 every year since) and midfield impact of De Goey as a mid, nor the goal kicking highs of De Goey in 2018/19 before his transition to more midfield minutes.

I think Stringer had a higher ceiling than De Goey but De Goey has ultimately had the better career and more impact on matches. He still kicked some goals but given Essendon were more than happy to trade him after kicking 42 goals they obviously don't rate the impact of them too highly.

I want to thank Mofra in particular for flying the Cooper Hynes flag since he was drafted.
I really like the kid. I feel like he'll be a slower burn than others and has to 'grow into his body' and it may take a few years to fully build his tank. I think the finished product will be worth the weight.

Certainly DeGoey was the better midfielder and it is disappointing that Stringer never delivered on that part of his potential. I think if you cancel out their career best years of 2015 Stringer and 2018 Degoey, they've both had careers which have not lived up to potential.

I think you have the right read on Stringer, but you are overrating Degoey who has been inconsistent and injury/suspension prone.

De Goey has been a stud in big games and especially finals throughout his career. He's basically been the Wayne Johnston of the modern era, saving his absolute best for finals.

Stringer never raised his game in finals with us - and it has been bit hard to do so since he left the kennel, seeing as he has played at a shithouse team that barely makes finals let alone wins any.

Stringer was mad in that Hawks game in 16 though. Our second an amazing trap and snap and his snap up the other end in the 3QT was sublime.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Is it just me or does Hynes remind anyone else of Callum Ward? I love that we are recruiting footballers other than athletes recently.

Interesting comparison. I need to give it some more thought.
Footballers over athletes probably has been out preference but you do need a balance.
