Re: The official Sam Reid/Daniel Currie Memorial Eker Thread

Once again we may have written off Sam Reid too soon!

      SAM SUN

Discarded GWS Giant Sam Reid could keep his AFL dream alive, with the Gold Coast Suns contemplating making a play for the 31-year-old.

The popular player was let go by the Giants after 98 games with the club and now faces an anxious wait to see if the Suns shine a light on him and his aspirations to continue in the AFL.

Suns’ list boss Craig Cameron told Sheahan Ink the club would consider taking Reid and adding him to the list.

“If he gets through as a rookie, there is a better chance,” he said.

Reid started his career with the Western Bulldogs back in 2008 and now has 108 games to his name.

Surely this boots Daniel Currie from the thread title. That is legend status.

And he seems a good bloke too, so I'd be happy for him.

Im a huge fan of what he's done, and its a great story of persistence - absolute team first player who will do whatever he is asked to do.

Thanks Axe Man for bringing that to our attention

I never signed off to the players being in the title. It’s against Eker ethos.

Luke O’Sullivan was my inspiration though.

twodogs for sure would've carried out the change. But I wouldn't mind betting he was the puppet and not the puppet master in this act of tretury.

Big Tom Campbell making a late charge for the thread title, with the Saints looking to pick him up in 2022 as ruck depth. That makes 54 games, 3 clubs and 11 consecutive seasons on an AFL list.

It's a monster of an effort.

                              RIP sweet prince.

Country footy: GWS veteran Sam Reid signs for Echuca in the GVL

Why have one Reid, when you can have two — it’s the mantra Echuca is living by in 2022.

The Goulburn Valley powerhouse has announced the signing of 108-game AFL veteran Sam Reid to land one of the first big blows in the recruiting stakes.

Reid will link up alongside his brother Ben who returned to the club in 2021 and has VFL experience with Geelong.

The 32-year-old’s arrival only strengthens his family’s connection to the area with his father Geoff also a past player.

At the elite level, Reid proved himself as the ultimate team man playing a variety of different roles as desired GWS coach Leon Cameron.

And Echuca co-coach Simon Maddox doesn’t expect that to change when he pulls on the bottle green at Victoria Park.

“Sam is the ultimate utility,” he said.

“It’s going to be a luxury to be able to play him where we need him depending on the situation of the game.
I also can't believe Sam's brother is named Ben, like the other Sam and Ben Reid.

Sam Reid footy journey end is full of irony. What a legend, ekking out 108 games. not sure that number could disqualify him now, but the number of years and being delisted/rookied/drafting, amazing journey of resilence .

Blame Ben for his premature excite ( if an eker can ever be in control of their exit) . In the end he choose to enjoy the rest of his football career with people he loves. Well done Sam.
