If I were Bontempelli I'd go for 4.5 to 5M over 5 years. In 5 years time he will still be young enough to sign another 4 plus year deal at whatever an increased cap will allow.

I think we'd pay him more. If Dusty is worth $1.7m and Kelly is worth $9m over 7 years we have an idea of the Bont's value.

He does things in a way that no other player in my time watching the game can do. I believe we'll have a statue of him at some point. At his best, there are few players with his poise, vision and ability to win the ball to greatest effect. Good character. He'll pretty much get what he asks for.

I already have him past Templeton and into the realm of EJ.

I think he's worth more than that. If Martin gets the money he gets for one decent season (let's face it, Martin has performed one season at the potential he is capable of. All the rest of his career has been disappointing,)

I already have him past Templeton and into the realm of EJ.

Well he's the only Bulldog to stand with EJ as a B&F winner in a Premiership year, both extremely young too.

I saw a list not long after the GF that compared EJ and the Bont's acheivments over their first 50 games and there were a few similarities.

Sounds about right to me. Risk/reward on both sides. Bont has the potential to be a genuine franchise player.

Yeah it's weird if you ask me. I'm sure I'm not wearing rose coloured glasses when I see him pick up the ball with clean hands in congestion then spear a perfect 50 metre pass to a player no one else could hit time and time again. Or kick 50 metre bombs of one step post high.
If anything his form has been a little inconsistent and his set shots have been off the last couple seasons. But he still has an average of 104 SuperCoach in 2018 compared to 107 in 2016 when everyone was gushing over him.
Oh well he's our best kept secret then isn't he!

Loved reading the start of this post from five years ago again, then thinking about all the views on this forum over the past couple of weeks. What do we all really know anyway!?
