I agree we need a skillful, pacy ball carrier most who can break the lines and kick goals.
Stringer ? Once Crameri comes back and also JJ ?
Don't need to draft one in we have them already on the list.
Also I think some of the VFL players will fill that role as they get more games.
Might actually look at Hannan or Hayes ?

I think Neale offers something close to that. While I'm not quite sold on him and that it would be a long shot he seems to me to be a better footballer than just being regarded as an accumulator.

We lack a small forward with the X-factor, someone who could get off the leash and kick a bag. An Eddie Betts-lite who could do what Ballantyne used to do for Freo or Daniel Rioli is developing into at Tigerland. Perhaps this type of player could be drafted rather than traded for.

There is certainly the option of selecting that type of player as it's very much a draft with a number of exciting midfielders.

Our forward line is developing into a tall one - with Crameri back plus Stringer mobile and at least two talls - Boyd and Redpath. I'm not convinced Tory Dickson is a long term solution as the list ages. I feel we've seen the best of him.

We want a smart small forward in addition to the midfielders that rotate through. Perhaps that's Toby McLean, but I think we need another.

Do you think HC can be that player?

No I don't. He's a mid back-up who can rotate through the forward line. He's a good defensive forward but I can't see him ever kicking five goals in a game. McLean could. Dickson has but I don't see his longevity. Maybe Dale is another but yet to figure out which part of his game could be elite.

Lachie Neale signed a three year deal, so take his name off the list of possible names.

Bit tough on Dickson Squirrel .
I'd prefer Hill over Rich ( the contract is massive ) Hurley would be wonderful, but we need a bit of wriggle room to get him in .

With Hurley apparently on our radar I thought I'd also check 2 GWS boys in Stewart and Tomlinson. Stewart kicked 4 goals and Tomlinson 3 in a 21 possession game. They must be on the radar of some Victorian clubs.

Maybe it's a year for us to try to be very active. Hold out a Stevens type, offer up Jong, Hrovat & Honeychurch to see if they can facilitate opening up spots on the list and bringing in different sorts of players. Perhaps think about packaging them up with 2017 second rounder too for the right player.

In the draft I'd be looking at a goal kicking utility to develop and eventually replace Dickson, Crameri and Stringer, who will spend more time up the ground as his career progresses. They'll need to be at least 190cm tall, or otherwise blessed with a lot of pace and a good leap. You can never have enough good kicks, plus we need pace.

I tend to agree with Squirrel that we need to find a lightning quick forward to put pressure on opposition defenders when we have the ball and when we don't. I can't think of any that are available, and that's the thing, it's one of the hardest positions to master and the talent pool is pretty thin.

If we could land Hurley that would be amazing. I'd give up our first and second round, while swapping third rounders to do so.
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

The Hun article says Hurley can be deemed to be a delisted free agent owing to the saga.

And 190cm, quick off the mark, good leap. You can just come out and say you want Jarrad Grant back. It's ok.

With the quality of our list should we be looking at players that are not in the best 22 at their current club? For us to take the next step we need to bring players in that will walk in to our starting line up.

Agree it's a fine line but I think there are players on the outer at other sides that could come in and perform better than some of our own players.
As a couple of examples might be around if we are looking to add a forward who can take a turn in the ruck then maybe Stewart or Vardy could slot into our best 22.
