I agree PP although I wouldn't be surprised if we went for Brander or Balta. I mentioned this in the List Management thread. With Cloke, Crameri & Stringer all gone we may look for a bigger mobile type who can hit the scoreboard.

They have to be in the mix for sure Doc. With last year's picks and Schache and Trengove, I probably looked more at midsize/smalls rather than kpp's for this draft, although Balta and Brander are probably mobile enough to come into calculations. Oscar Allen is the other one I could see us entertaining.

In terms of a small quick forward, who might be around the mark for Pick 16?

Also - any concerns on Higgins? I don't know why but he kind of reminds me of Hooper in that he's a bit chunky for a player of his size and lacks pace.

          From very limited viewing/knowledge:

          - Lochie O'Brien looks a real prospect IMO.
          - Coffield would suit us really well
          - Fogarty would be difficult to pass on if his knee checks out OK/attitude is fine?

Think we will have some great options at #9.

Liam Ryan from WA is arguably the best small forward outside the AFL

He doesn't appear to be in the chunky category to me but yes he doesn't have great speed. I wouldn't necessarily take him at 9 but at 16 he would be a bargain.

Lachlan Fogarty is a great small forward who can also play in the midfield. He applies a lot of pressure to the opposition defenders and makes a lot of tackles. He has a real defensive ethic despite being very good on the scoreboard as well.
Gryan Miers is a Dahlhaus clone and could make the transition to senior football quickly.

                Re: WOOF Phantom Drafts

Does a small forward have to go through the midfield eventually? What I want to know is if that is would it be a huge knock on a jud if a re router thought he was only going to play as a (very good) small forward for his whole career. For arguments sake this kid can't build his endurance base an awful lot for medical reasons but he is an outrageously talented footballer and can conjure goals out of nothing like Peter Daicos.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I like Higgins a lot, he's probably my first choice (along with O'Brien). Although he doesn't look overly fast, he has good agility and has tremendous workrate and forward pressure. He is also a really good kick (ranked 2nd at combine, scoring 29 of 30) and is strong overhead. Although opinions on his draft ranking vary enormously Buckenara has him at No.4 and Knightmare has him at No.8 (rates him as a Toby Greene). He did win the Morrish Medal as player of the series in the TAC Cup so Andrew Hooper comparisons are a bit harsh.

He also strikes me as someone Dal will rate as he will focus on the elite characteristics rather than the shortcomings and he comes across as a real hardworker/solid citizen/leader who will rate well as a person as well as a player.

Realistically we'd only be drafting to replace one of those players in Stringer. Our list management process should have been planning for the loss of Crameri 2-3 years ago, whilst Cloke not being productive should have been accounted for at the time we picked him up.

Hooper was a Larke Medalist! That's pretty good pedigree.

Wow! Fair call I didn't realise that. Still back Higgins to go a lot earlier than 35 in the Rookie Draft and to play a lot more games than Hooper did.

                          Re: WOOF Phantom Drafts

The AFEL have been posting videos of the main types, with footage and interviews, just 2-3 minutes.

I've watched the Bonar, O'Brien & Coffield videos and they look good.

Looks like most think O'Brien could slip to our 16, and I hope he does. So having to make a call between Bonar, Coffield & Fogarty with pick 9 possibly.

The other one who must come into calculations at 16 is Ed Richards.Ticks a lot of boxes as a rapid improver, long penetrating left footer, good accelaration and good character reports (leadership roles at Carey). Appeals as one Dal would like.
