I made a call earlier in the game questioning the quality of the opposition, but after watching that last half, Werribee have me eating humble pie...There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Re: Round 7, 2018 - Footscray Bulldogs V Werribee
On todays performance I wouldn't have Schache over Gowers unless we don't mind no defensive effort from a forward. Looks for the easy one. Granted a better kick at goal.
Maybe Schache in for Dale as you get the same in tackles and I would persist with Gowers a little longer.

Re: Round 7, 2018 - Footscray Bulldogs V Werribee
Just watching the last quarter, AFL/VFL footy needs some help there is no doubt about it. Its a rolling rugby maul following the ball I'm not sure you can call it entertainment. The only thing I can take from it is that English is trying his guts out he will get there that kid. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Round 7, 2018 - Footscray Bulldogs V Werribee
Gee Schache doesn't have a defensive bone in his body. Easily pushed aside. When he gets the ball he uses it beautifully.
Agree with others on Biggs. He MUST come in for Crozier. He's been busy.
Morris and Adams will be better for the run. Both have been rusty as you would expect.
English always stays involved which is great signs. There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

VFL REPORT | 'Scray hold off Tigers
Katie de Haer
20 May 2018 5:35 PM
Footscray are knocking on the door of the VFL top 8 after holding off a surging Werribee side on Sunday afternoon.
The Scray were able to withstand a late charge which saw the home side come within 8 points, after the Dogs had led by as much as 58 points during the early part of the third quarter.
Josh Schache kicked a game high three goals, while co-captain Angus Monfries, Nathan Mullenger-McHugh and Will Hayes contributed two goals each.
The successful return of defenders Dale Morris and Marcus Adams from injury was a welcome sight for Footscray fans.
It was Morris’ first game since sustaIning a partial ACL tear earlier in the year, while Adams was returning from an ankle ligament injury suffered in the pre-season.
Footscray will face Collingwood at VU Whitten Oval next Saturday.

From this Schache and Biggs to possibly come in. For those that watched it today should we give Morris and Adams another week in the VFL or play them on Friday."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

The winner of the match takes away the Health West Cup, a joint initiative between Western Health and Mercy Health to raise awareness of the medical services across Melbourne’s west. Footscray are the current cup holders having beaten Werribee last year.
The match saw the return of defenders Dale Morris (a partial ACL tear in February) and Marcus Adams (ligament damage to his ankle before round 1). It was particularly significant for Dale Morris who started his football career playing for Werribee on this ground (Chirnside Oval) way back in 2004.
Remember Andrew Hooper, he played his first game for us in 2010 in the semi-final and kicked a goal. He played his 100th VFL game today.
Footscray won the toss and kicked with the wind. Adams immediately went to the bench and sat out the whole of the first quarter. Jamieson Shae kicked our first goal after a handpass from M-M. The long shot bounced through and was allowed as a goal, otherwise a free kick could have been awarded to Schache. Young missed a marking spoil, he seemed to be a bit unlucky as it looked as though he was pushed off the ball, and Werribee marked and goaled.
Jong got a smack in the face and had to come off under the blood rule. M-M who dropped a few marks was otherwise playing perhaps his best quarter yet and kicked two goals. Monfries put one through from an angle and Schache got one through a snap. Schache had some great defensive work with two fine smothers. The backline was functioning well and starting to jell together. At quarter time the scores were Footscray 5-1-31 to Werribee 2-0-12.
Marcus Adams came onto the ground in the second quarter and got his first couple of disposals after about five minutes. Many of the Werribee attacks with the wind were repelled by the fine work of Biggs and Smith. Young was very good with marking, spoiling and running. Schache snapped another goal and Morris got himself into the play. T-B kicked a running goal. Monfries goaled from a free kick directly in front. Werribee had been held, scoring only one goal with the wind. At half time scores were Footscray 8-3-51 to Werribee 3-5-23.
In the third quarter Morris opened up the excitement with a courageous diving mark. Schache kicked a 50 meter goal from directly in front after marking on a lead. He almost did the same thing a few minutes later from a sharp angle but the ball fell into the goal square. Callum Porter who had been reasonably active kicked a curvy goal from the forward pocket. Will Hayes, who might have played his best game ever for Footscray kicked two running goals in a minute. Jong took an overhead contested mark from a Tom Campbell kick and goaled. It was the 15 minutes mark of the third quarter and the scores were Footscray 13-4-82 to Werribee 3-6-23. Things going along just dandy. A walk in the park. The boys could hone their skills against Werribee who tried hard but were just not quite good enough. Adams passed the ball inboard to little Porter who was dispossessed and Werribee scored a goal. A turnover by Morris and Werribee got another, then right on the siren they kicked another. Three quarter time scores were Footscray 13-5-83 to Werribee 6-6-42.
Werribee had the wind in the last quarter and scored 5 goals 4 behinds to our solitary point. Werribee had scored the last 8 goals of the match and at the end almost looked like winning it. Two of their goals were due to stuff-ups by William and Biggs. M-M dropped a mark from right in front of our goal - and a goal at that point could have sealed it for us. A few minutes later M-M laid a brilliant tackle that could have saved the game. Werribee's McFarlane tried to rough up Roarke Smith and a donneybrook almost burst out. To our great relief the siren finally sounded at the 34:39 minute mark.
2 Lewis Young
Very good game. He was in all of the action. Best on ground for mine. Lots of marks and spoils and run. He is getting better all of the time. Really hard worker. Possible call up for seniors.
13 Josh Schache
Three nice goals and some good defensive work. Lead well. Improving all of the time. Possible call up for seniors. One of his tackles did not stick. Somebody said that he plays like a taller version of Bailey Dale. That's about right. Gets where he can get the ball to kick a goal. Nice straight kick for goal.
15 Tom Campbell
Good ruck work and play around the ground. Contests well.
18 Fletcher Roberts
Played a reliable but not starring game.
24 Shane Biggs
Did a lot of hard work. 27 Disposals. Made a few blues but those who do the most work are entitled to make the most mistakes. Could be in line for senior selection again.
25 Marcus Adams
Was given limited game time and spent time both forward and back. He was composed when disposing of the ball. Possible call up to the seniors.
28 Callum Porter
A few weeks ago he went to Perth as the team emergency, then he missed a match due to the bye, then last week he was stuck as a half-back against Port Melbourne and played miserably making me wonder what we ever saw in the lad. He is a midfielder not a half-back and today played much better as a mid-fielder. His best game I think. 20 disposals. Not ready for senior selection. Can you improve on today Callum?
30 Fergus Greene
Has some talent but doesn't show it enough.
37 Roarke Smith
Was very good and repelled many opposition attacks. Good team-work, good kicking. Seemed to drop off a bit in the last quarter again.
38 Dale Morris
Did a few nice things but not enough to get into the bests.
40 Nathan Mullenger-McHugh
One of his best games today. Not good enough for AFL at the moment. A lot of mistakes.
44 Timothy English
Didn't get pushed out of the way by the opposition ruck. Runs well. Tapped well. 19 disposals. Improving all of the time. Good leap, good skills, good game.
46 Lin Jong
Fumbled the ball too much for my liking. Went off with head knock twice. Disposal wasn't good at times.Comment

Re: Round 7, 2018 - Footscray Bulldogs V Werribee
Thanks James Cummimg. Great report.
It's probably a coincidence but I thought Greene often got into good position but was ignored by the player with the ball. It wasa frustrating day for him.
We are going to love watching Tim English loping around the ground from contest to contest. And one play in the third quarter where he lead his opponent to the ball, picked it up on the half and handballed it over his shoulder to a bulldog player running toward goal is worth seeing. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

No. He's a nice VFL player, but I don't see that he has the attributes to make enough of an impact at AFL level.Comment
