You could run the argument no doubt to retain Poulter. He's been in pretty good form for Footscray and is a unique player.
I'm not as quick to delist Jones though especially assuming Coffield goes.

How many changes at the end of the season do you think we will go with BAD?

    Treloar - 1 year / retire (I think he'll hang them up)
Scott - Delist (unfortunate run of injuries but surplus to needs)
    A. Jones - 1 year
    Poulter - Delist
    JJ - 1 year / retire (50/50 to retire)
    L. Jones - 1 year
Bont - As long as he wants, in whatever role
    Sellwood - 1 year
    Coffield - Delist
    Baker - Delist
    Duryea - Retire
Libba - 1 year every year until he's had enough

That's 5 off the list before any off-season movement / rookie elevations etc. There will always be a player or two depart so we'd be going into the draft / trade period with 6-7 list spots available i'd guess. Personally i'd be thanking Gardner for his time as well if we needed an extra list spot.

I’m a Scott fan but he just can’t keep himself on the park.
While I still think Treloar has more to offer and he's such a positive and professional person to have at the club, his relationship with Sanders could be important next season in a contract year.

List management wise we have brought in a few more players via the drafts in the last two seasons so we don't have to be too ruthless on cutting players at the end of this year.
The older players like Treloar, Libba, Jones and JJ will need to accept potential role changes and not being automatic selections.

Ugle-Hagan's availability might open up another spot.

Pretty accurate I think of what will happen. Arty Jones and Coffield still have a small shot imo to get a one year deal, actually think Coffield could play AFL soon.

Things are finally moving with Marcus Bontempelli’s contract at the Westernbulldogs
Exact terms TBA but there’s little doubt the skipper will be paid handsomely on a deal as long as he wants (within reason, of course). It would be a break from his own tradition to sign more than 4 years.

The Dogs are adamant Bontempelli is no chance to leave the club but has just had some life issues including his engagement and the starting of a new cafe to concentrate on.

Those talks should kick off in coming weeks.

Veterans Liam Jones and Adam Treloar are also out of contract this year.

Freijah is out of contract next year along with Ryley Sanders, Harvey Gallagher and Jordan Croft.

Freijah is one of footy’s rising stars given his emergence as a pacy, explosive midfielder, while Sanders is in no hurry given he is a Tasmanian likely to get a massive multimillion-dollar offer to move south.

Jones has been fantastic for us since coming back to the club, but I am not sure I want to contract him for another year? I am in two minds.

I have been on the record of saying we have a bottom 10 and thats why against good teams we dont win. Against bottom teams they are at that same level hence why they low down on the ladder. We need to get a bottom 6 like the top teams who actually do a job that helps the team WIN. Our bottom players rely on Bont Libba Ed Dale to have 30+ possessions in a game to make up for the lack of touches of others. I said last week that 7 possession game of Tom Barass made a difference in the outcome of the game, so its not all about numbers its the contribution to the team. We can have 5 blokes not getting 10 possessions, lose every one on one contest they are in and lay one tackle for the game. Selfless running up and down a wing and pressure acts that dont lead to a win means effectively we have played a player short. When you have multiple doing that in the same game and Bont/Ed get tagged its not trending in the right direction.

VDM is a top 15 player. I was critical of him in the past but there's nobody on our list that can do what he does.

3 years for Gardner was dumb at the time and remains dumb 2 years in.

He’s a top 22 player, who has continued to develop. Seems a lot, but I’m assuming the cash isn’t huge. Plus he’s a level of absolute shithead we haven’t really had on the list, so that’s a plus.

I honestly think Vandermeer would get signed by all 17 other clubs.

He is the modern AFL athlete who is improving his craft constantly. I have been really surprised by his overhead marking this year, and subjectively think he is using the ball more efficiently.

If he had a bit more class around him, I think he would shine brighter.
