There might be more to it than just the picks, it could possibly be a 3 way deal. I really hope that is the case and we're not holding out for more like last year.

Is it just me or is that a very high price for Renouf? Pick 33

I know Ruckman go for higher, but I wouldn't have been wrapt if we'd offered pick 60 for Renouf

With Hawthorns luck with ruckmen, Bailey's knees, and the fact that their 'insurance' Roughead is out till probably mid-year (and probably can't be risked as a ruck option) I am very suprised that the Hawks traded at all. If I were them I would stop kicking black cats and stockpile at least 10.

All credit to Melbourne. They identified genuine talent in Mitch Clark and have thrown the kitchen sink at him. Clubs that tinker around the edges are not going to improve their list - we're doing more tinkering than MacGyver.
Adam Goodes at pick 30 odd says Hello.
Chris Grant at pick 100 odd. Never discount a draft pick you just never know
Bit harsh when you consider Adelaide are in a better draft position than us.
They've given up a lot also to get this kid, Clark's become a cross between Polly Farmer and Gordon Coventry in three days.Completely overrated for mine he's had one decent season in the ruck and took a long time for that breakthrough season.

But that's Sedat's exact point. At 45 or 49, the chance of getting one out of the box would be pretty similar. You're squabbling over spec picks rather than blue chip.

It's all just posturing and every club's in on it.
Funny how Adelaide didn't get that 1st rounder for Maric.
I reckon Hill will get to the Eagles. You probably won't get a blue chip

agree with you. I haven't seen anything from Renouf to suggest that he can play and if we picked him up in the rookie draft i wouldn't be happy. Well done to the hawks in getting that for a spud and they might even get a decent pick from GWS for another spud in Ladson. How can they do it and we can't.

stay away from this guy. He is finished, he will never be half the player he was and the hawks know that. Smith has taken his role and the hawks will be looking to trade of damaged goods again. Buyer beware big time.

Adelaide and Sydney have apparently come to terms for a swap involving Tony Armstrong, pick 35 and another late pick going to the Swans and the Crows getting Lewis Johnston.

Essendon are after Josh Caddy who wants to come home. I haven't seen much of him but he sounds like a potential A grader midfielder and somebody we should be targeting.

There has been a lot of talk on Trade Radio that Essendon have been quiet because of Bomber Thomson. His position at Geelong was 'you train your own'; (Plough's words, not mine) ... Meaning you don't trade unless you really have to, it's better to build capacity of your existing crew.

Anyway, I was wonder what other posters thought ... With our new coach spending plenty of years under Bomber, and as he is known as a teacher of players, is this going to be our new approach? We've been a lot quieter in trade week this year than we have been in previous years ??

I think we have to be. I think spending our money wisely in recruiting & development is the only way we can survive & thrive. We have to be able to get a team together that can pick the eyes out of the draft better than most and then develop them better than most. If we can't be one of the leaders in this area then free agency will cripple us.
