    The draft.

    OK. Trade week is over and I'm bored already.
    Can people please start crapping on about the draft?
    I don't care if it's wildly inaccurate, blatantly impossible, stupid, fanciful, or even intelligent and considered. I want rumours, fantasies, predictions and information from "good sources".

    Just please, PLEASE, start the draft gossip.

    I'm dyin' over here.

    Re: The draft.

    I'd heard the Bulldogs were going to take Dancin' Dougy with their first pick? Fanciful enough?

    We need to draft speedy mids and KP players. Just like every year, dammit.

      If we have four picks, what type of player should we look at?

      2 fast outside mids and a couple of KPP types, or add another ruckman?

        I'd look to rookie a ruckman; some pace and a key back you'd hope would be near the top of the wishlist

          I'm not saying this just to have a go at you, but don't we need some fast 'inside' mids?

          We need players to give Griffen & Cooney a hand around the clearances... but I'm not sure we will get any with the picks we have. Perhaps in 2012 when we will have some decent picks.

            I have a question about the mechanics of the compensation pick.

            If we end up with pick 10 in the draft, and choose to activate our compensation pick,
            it becomes pick 11 yes?

            If we trade our comp pick in the same draft to someone with pick number 1, and they use it,
            does it become pick 2? Or is it tied to our draft position, and remains pick 11?

            Is there a loophole there to be exploited somehow?

              Without knowing the final delistings & therefore how many picks we will have it's a little hard to do, but as with others we need:

              National draft:

              * KP defender/s - I guess it's a less of a priority if we persist with Mulligan.
              * Inside mids with pace and foot skills - yeah right.
              * Mid sized defenders - replacements for Hargrave, Murphy & Morris.

              Rookie draft:

              * Ruckman
              * Outside mids/ flankers.

                Re: The draft.

                1st and 2nd picks - any player who has great disposal under pressure <needs>

                My wish for 1st pick is McKenzie (having not even seen footage of the guy playing )

                3rd, 4th and 5th picks - best available player of any type <why place restrictions on crap picks?>

                rookies - best available (again, why place restrictions on crap picks?)

                * caveat - if any pick is a ruck prospect, he really must be able to take a contested mark as a bare minimum.

                I dont see us as having any glaring positional deficiencies, more of a general quality issue, and the best way to improve our defence is to improve our ability to win the ball and use it well.

                  Does anyone think Talia will still be around at pick 17? I know the club are looking at drafting him!!

                      No it's tied to the club that earnt it in the first place. So if we trade it to say Essendon it's still tied to our finishing position.

                      The bigger catch with it is that we have to nominate the year we will use it at the start of the year ie. if we want to use it in 2014 we have to say so before the 2014 season, not at the end when we have finished 3rd last. If we end up premiers that year then thats just our bad luck (well not really if we're premiers) that the pick isn't great.
                      I should leave it alone but you're not right

                        The thread is about the upcoming draft which Dangerfield won't be a part of.

                          What I think we really need

                          Key defenders
                          Running mid sized defenders
                          Quickish Midfielders
                          Ruckman

                          My wish list

                          Pick 17 - Sam Docherty (mid sized defender) - super quick, elite skills
                          Pick 39 - Henry Schade (key defender) - gives excellent rebound and very good one on one
                          Pick 49 - Jimmy Webster (Inside/outside midfielder) - good skills, nice pace
                          Pick 57 - Jack Crisp (medium forward/defender) - Good pressure skills
                          Pick 70 - Alex Woodward (small inside midfielder/half forward) - Classy inside mid with very good pace, only 175cm though

                          Rookie Draft

                          Courtney Hylton (running defender) - good skills
                          Chris Prowse (Ruckman) - a little bit of a project

                            The draft isn't deep for good ruckman. Would Myles Bolger from WA be worth a look at?
