I know you're not supposed to fall in love with a highlights package but Clayton Oliver's tape just screams AFL quality.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

          Draft Camp - Tall Defenders

A number of top draft selections loom in the Tall Defenders group

A number of top draft selections are expected to come from this year's crop of Tall Defenders.

The group comprises thirteen players including Jacob Weitering, Riley Bonner, Kieran Collins, Aaron Francis and Eric Hipwood who were selected as Under-18 All-Australians as well as Darragh Joyce from County Kilkenny in Ireland as the search for talent continues to broaden.

“AFL clubs are after players in this category with the potential to become the next Alex Rance, Cale Hooker, Harry Taylor or Michael Hurley who are star performers as tall defenders in the game today," AFL National and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan said.

"They have the ability to cover the ground with their athletic ability, are very good one-on-one, read the play exceptionally well taking intercept marks and provide great rebound for their respective teams. Many can also play the swingman role and provide a target up forward when required.”

A total of 82 players will attend the 2015 AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne at Etihad Stadium from Thursday October 8 to Sunday October 11.

State Combines will be held in Melbourne (October 11), Perth (October 18), Adelaide (October 19) and Sydney (October 26).

The final positions group, Small Defenders, Midfielders and Forwards, will be released next week. Keep checking afc.com.au’s Draft & Trade Hub for the latest draft analysis.

Hipwood will most likely end up at a Qld club through the Academy rules.

I reckon Kieron Collins, Ben MacKay and Riley Bonner will be on our radar, Bonner or Collins a possible 1st rounder, with Mackay more likely 2nd rounder. If we get none of these, maybe Nick Coughlan with the 3rd or 4th?

                Re: 2015 Draft Watch

FWIW, a big footy poster of some repute has said Dalrymple is 'all over' ben mcKay, and a few of the phantoms (including the one Dr posted, I now see) have him shooting up the ranks as a bolter.

If all of the above is true, then he probably wont be around at our 2nd. Whether that means we would use our 1st, or try to engineer a swap of 2nd rounders with Brisbane or Carlton? interesting.

Interesting, BM was seen as a fair way below his brother Harry a few months ago and was a later starter to AFL. Dal loves identifying rapid improvers. At 200 cm and with agility, versatility and aggression, he has a lot to recommend him. I've had him in the 2nd round bracket, but may be he's a bolter.

Not quite, they must match the points that another club might bid.

The picks have a sliding value,
                        Pick 1 is 3,000 points
                        Pick 2 is 2,517 points
                        Pick 3 is 2,234 points

                        etc, etc

If someone offered pick 3 for Hipwood, then Brisbane must match 2,234 points to secure him.

So according to this, pick 11 is 1,329 points. Brisbane's picks 20 & 38 together are 1,377. So that would do it but it's giving up their early 2nd & 3rd round picks for one player. And they've got Ben Keays as an academy player tipped to go early too

I don't fully understand it but it's more complicated than that with the option of carrying points into the next season but essentially that is correct. Clubs can also either find points in a single year by using points allocated to their existing draft selections or owe points the following season. Brisbane will probably get back some currency with Leuenberger and Aish departing.

The picks have a sliding value,
                              Pick 1 is 3,000 points
                              Pick 2 is 2,517 points
                              Pick 3 is 2,234 points

                              etc, etc

If someone offered pick 3 for Hipwood, then Brisbane must match 2,234 points to secure him.
They get a discount for academy player (something like 30%) so they have to match the bid then have a discount applied(as above they'd need to find 2,234 - 670 = 1,564).
