It may be parody but it didn't miss it's mark:

Who Knew 100-year Old Copper Wasn’t As Good As Fibre Optic Cable?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Sure, but the reality is the FTTP plan would've cost $300-400 billion and most of Australia would be years off getting it. It would've been Myki on a national level.

I've got nbn, I've Ethernet cabled most of the rooms in my house, and I get on average about 98mbs and about 60mbs on Wi-Fi (been meaning to upgrade my router). I also direct my internet through a vpn router to create a second network at home and I get somewhere between 25 and 10mbs depending on where I'm routing to (U.K. being the furthest and therefore slowest). The outcome is I can't notice any difference in speed between the two networks, including when I stream UHD.

The overwhelming majority of people that complain we only currently get 25mbs while South Korea get 250mbs wouldn't notice any difference other than the number that comes up on the results screen on Speedtest.net. It's whinging for the sake of whinging.

Eventually we'll need better speed, but it won't be for many years, and we can then review whether upgrading all premises to FTTP is the right upgrade, or if there's a better and newer alternative at the time. At least in the mean time a lot more people will have access to good internet speed, rather than a small number having access to great speed that they can't take advantage of, while the rest have rubbish ADSL.

It's all academic to me anyway because it hasn't reached here in the backwaters of West Footscray yet.

There's a very good reason the infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and police numbers are shithouse in the western suburbs. But hey at least about 75% of the locals can comfort themselves they're sticking to them rich people every 4 years.

Glad your happy with what is being rolled out.

There is a massive difference between 25 and 250mbps.

Conspiracy or no conspiracy, copper is not what should be used. We should have stuck to the original plan and it would be all rolled out by now. May as well not even have any NBN and stick to ADSL and not spend the money at all.

Yeah good. I don't really understand your point. Is it that Gellibrand always returns the ALP candidate? If so why should I care? I couldn't give a rats arse about the ALP.

The point is you'll always get treated like an urban back water when minds are decided before any thought's been given. It's a reason why an inner city suburb like Footscray can not be in the plan for nbn. One mob could spend 80% of Victoria's budget in the West and still get no support, the other mob could set fire to everything 3rd house and win in a landslide. Hence both sides treat the area as a 3rd world country and focus on areas that are up for grabs.

It's a moot point, it's not going to change, but you might have to wait a while yet for decent internet.

Yep, completely agree. The only way we get heard is to return an independent member.

I've learned not to try to debate nbn once the propaganda Kool Aid's been drunk, but to suggest the original plan would've been finished by now is childish. It would barely have made any progress such were the extent of the problems.

Let's not get off track, but the only solution is to vote LNP.
They don't need to win, just be within striking distance of being a swinging seat. Then watch the investment money finally pour in. As I said though, it's a moot point, I've tried to explain it to people around our area and the reaction is pure aggression. At least Yarraville was an initial test suburb, so I'm well set for nbn.

Maybe what you think is an explanation is interpreted as lecturing? I'm not winding you up but just maybe you and the burghers of Yarraville are at cross purposes?

Quite probably, but no one's been successful in conveying the message in 80 years, so it was optimistic to think I could.

Mate, I've never been able to get anything through their thick heads and I've been trying more than 50 years! I grew up with them, went to school with them, I've loved them and hated them, fought against them and tried to understand what the world looks like from their POV and it's damn near killed me.

I love Yarraville but it's a atrange, strange place peopled by the weirdest collection of people you will find anywhere. Believe it or not it used to be worse. The local inbreds were really insular back in the 70s and 80s, just walking into the wrong pub could get your head beaten in.

That's a good point I've heard at work before. It may even be that physical infrastructure to individuals house/suburbs becomes redundant.

Or Greens. Might be a more realistic sale to Labor voters than the LNP.
