Been a while since I read the book, but I didn't think the Red Viper died that way....I thought he had his head removed.....may be wrong though.
The shame of it is that its yet another VERY likelable character gone
I am finding this season ok, but not great. I think the number of useless plot deviations are that weren't in the book (Bran Stark nearly meeting Jon Snow as Krasters keep; Jon actually going back to Krasters keep; Littlefingers killing Lyssa and calling it suicide rather than blaming it on the minstral forcing Sansa to reveal her identity; the unsullied guy getting a boner over Daenyries serving girl; the rape scene between Cercei and Jaime; the hound and Arya actually making it to the Eyrie). I have no issue with plot deviations, but some of these are fairly useless.
The Mountain actually caves in his head with his fists, accentuating each punch with his confession. It was a bit more drawn out than the show, and I actually think it would have been even more gruesome.
I'm a bit torn on the show too, as I think the story is covering too many points now (similar to what you said Fredi) and next season (NO SPOILERS SAFE TO READ ON it's scope gets considerably broader again, so even more plotlines to cover.
That being said, it's still 1,000 times better than the tripe being served up anywhere else.
Also, can we get a mod to move this thread to the TV board please?
I don't care about who gets killed following the books, but it really annoyed me that Pyp and Grenn got killed off when they're both still alive in the 5th book.
That out of the way, the looping shot of the battle at Castle Black that was a single take shot was amazing, just amazing. I'm surprised the internet hasn't exploded over the beauty of it.

Very good ep. Not at all what I predicted.
This is the shot I was talking about. Just outstanding. Spoilers, obviously.
I actually watched this episode again tonight with my wife who missed it. That scene really stood out, I probably didn't take it in first time round because I was so enthralled.
