For mine it's much of a muchness. I am really, really into the Wars of the Roses and from what I can see this is just WotR with some convenient historical characters thrown in to make the plotline seem more entertaining. But it doesn't make it more plausible to me, if anything it makes it harder to relate to when I know that the two characters interacting on my screen lived 2, 3, 4 or 500 years apart.

I understand that to get the gist of a story you have to suspend disbelief to an extent but there is suspending disbelief and there is just ignoring everything you have ever learned about a topic and I just find the whole ignoring historical fact (if there is such a thing as historical fact) thing a bit beyond me.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

So, without ever having watched any of it, Stark v Lannister = York v Lancaster? Is that a clue about who wins?

It all depends. Define 'win' because although the Yorkists came out on top they ended up fighting among themselves and were done as a dynasty only 12 years later (after the dynasty had been the rulers of England since 1133) when Henry VII (Tudor, father of Henry VIII) beat Richard III at Bosworth field in 1485 (A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse) and took the crown-the legend is that he found it hanging on a rosebush.

A lot of it is covered in Shakespeare's King John-Richard III history plays in an entertaining but historical way.

The Welsh. Actually I am pretty sure that Henry Tudor (who had Welsh heritage) had a dragon ensign but changed it to a red and white rose when he took the throne.

A great cliffhanger to finish the episode on. I've watched a few 'reaction' videos on Youtube, there was near-universal despair that they left the episode the way they did.

The teaser for Episode 2 was interesting viewing and didn't really answer any questions.
I hate being that guy but here goes: the quality of the show, the dialogue and the story arcs have taken a considerable decline since the tv show passed the books.
This is the best tv show ever made, but I fear for its denouement. And episode 1 did little to settle those concerns.

                I hope I'm wrong.

Really felt that in S7. Episode one patched over my worry with some really slick TV writing though. The parallels with s1e1 and soundtrack, lighting etc made the episode look fantastic and appealed to better days. I've resigned to accepting that book ending likely to be more satisfying than the show, they're on different paths now. Will just enjoy the show as is.

I can imagine it will be very interesting down the track to compare Martin's choices with those of the scriptwriters.

If it wasn't for the brilliant TV series, I doubt we would have heard of him.

For me, GOT is the best TV series I have ever watched. watched episode 2 of the final series today, and now only 4 to go

I know people and know of people who've been reading the books long before the TV series and love them. Adamant they're better than the show. You might not have heard of him but he'd clearly still be rather well known as an author (and how many 'famous' authors are there really?)

I wouldn't have it as the best ever. It's certainly good but there've been better shows

Very sharp return to form. Episode Two was a great episode.

Although the Arya scene made me very uncomfortable.

Are you trolling BAD? The only reason there is a show is because the books are a phenom. Just because you hadn't heard of him doesn't mean millions of others haven't.

A Storm of Swords is a masterpiece.
