Certainly wasn't the type to dig in typically (excluding the 2009 & 2013 Ashes series' I'd say) so I can definitely agree with that comment, and shared your frustration with some of his ordinary dismissals over the years.

Difficult though to speculate on his leadership outside of the batting glitches, without being in the inner circle - as it would appear he is well liked and respected within the Australia team.

I agree in regards to the leadership aspect, from those who have worked with Haddin he couldn't be more highly regarded and has a NSW coaching job waiting for him when he finishes up apparently. Yes he's well liked and a good company man but I think he must be a pretty vocal influence amongst the group

His keeping wasn't great, but it wasn't much behind Gilchrist's. When he first came in he was a bye machine but over time reduced that considerably. I think what got up a lot of people's noses (mine certainly) was the way he was constantly praised for the leadership and experience he brings to the side, yet he was one of the last players you could expect to dig deep in tough times.

Healy was our best keeper (and I stress - keeper) of the last 25 or so years. Gilchrist was an okay keeper and a wonderful batsman. Haddin was/is a reasonable keeper and a very handy batsman.

Nevill, however, is a technically beautiful keeper and a very tidy and capable batsman. For me, he's Australia's best pure keeper since Healy (or perhaps Berry). I'd have been pretty disappointed if we'd dropped Nevill as I believe Australia is simply a better team with him wearing the gloves.

I guess I'm more the type that wants to see a leader lead by actions before he'll win my admiration for how he can speak in a meeting. Not everyone necessarily requires that from their leaders.

Pleased to hear that. We should've moved on quite some time back, better late than never. Neville's not a young man himself and we should give him every opportunity to get the most out of his career.

Pleased that the selectors have gone with Neville. Looks good with the gloves and reasonable with bat. Will be interesting to see if Haddin has played his last test, barring injury to Neville it may appear that way.

I think if we're 3-1 up going into the last they'll give him a swan song in the 5th Test. Barring Neville putting in some shockers, if the series is on the line I doubt we'll see Haddin again.

I always thought Gilly was pretty neat behind the stumps. He was keeping to the best leg spinner of all time at his lethal best. That's not an easy thing to do.
