The policy of protecting fast bowlers and not letting them work properly has done more damage than good by breeding a generation of fast bowlers who never had the chance to discover either their limitations or what their bodies were truly capable of.

I usually wince when I hear a "things were different when I were a lad" bullshit stories ex sportsmen trot out. But I think the ex-fast bowlers have it right with their scepticism of the protection of fast bowlers.
My main point is this game is shot and chasing a result will end in a defeat or at best a draw. So I see it pointless to change things up too much in this game, despite what CA, the MCC and Ch9 want. If the by-product of batting for as long as possible means the quicks a little fresher for Sydney, then that's not too bad. Remembering that unlike past years, they added in 3 one days between squashed in tests. I was frustrated as hell when Starc got his 99, so tomorrow is a good chance for him to finally get a ton, and Smith 200.

There's rain forecast for Sydney too, so go in 1-0 up and if it's rain effected than eck out another draw and win the series.

Therein lies the issue. I love test cricket but I want to see a good contest that is at least a chance of not fizzling out into a draw if the weather allows it - and I suspect I'm not alone.

I've put in two and a half hours in the bar at the MCC on Tuesday, and two full days watching this on TV these past two expecting something other than a spell for our quicks and a drawn test.

If we don't go the hit early tomorrow and all going well give ourselves at least a couple of sessions to bowl at them I'll be annoyed and so will a large number of test cricket watchers. The pitch is a good pitch, it's not going to deteriorate significantly overnight so the only thing that will kill Pakistan is some pressure. We should be bold and go for the jugular, the bowlers can have a rest when the meaningless one day series is being played.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I have no problem with batting on tomorrow -even to all out. Putting the onus on Pakistan to bowl us out and then making that as difficult as possible is one way of salvaging a bit of momentum going into Sydney. Especially if Starc can get a 100 and Smith 200. Pakistan cricketers set high stock in personal achievement. Two big ones like that would be a blow to their moral.

And if we do and we manage to bat out most of the day then by the time the NY test rolls around the bowlers won't have bowled a ball in anger, or at the very most they have bowled for an afternoon, for a week. That's not ideal preperation.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

          Match wickets/runs tally: 15/997

The thousand runs fast approaching, only 15 down. Did we fly in the last pitch used in India?

Get cameo by Starc, I wish he went for the hundred though. With his batting numbers, and batting like that the selectors should consider him an all rounder.

PAK 2/8 in their second innings. Starc gets a wicket with his first ball after lunch.

Both of Bat Pad catches were superb.

How can you not love Test Cricket?

6 times today I've left the room for just a moment to a minute, and I've missed all 6 wickets. FFS.

It's life telling you to get out of the room 4 more times.
