Re: Break away European Super League.
The merch isn't being sold in countries containing people who actually give a shit about tradition. Yes it not being bought will hurt the club however, the majority of merch is being bought in Asia. Having lived in Vietnam and played nine a side with the locals in competition and casually, the very last thing on the minds of the folks I played with was collective evenness of the competitions the big clubs participate within and the home fans......and pretty much everyone wore a Barca, MU/ MC or Chelsea kit. These folks will continue to buy merch because to them, following these teams and being able to buy actual merch is a sign of prestige and wealth. Even buying knock off merch and being affiliated with these clubs is a fashion statement for guys who play nine a side (which is actually really humbling when you think about it).
Freddie's right, this issue is existential and bigger than than anglo-saxon merch buying patterns and ideologies around tradition. This is a grab for the new world, one in which the aforementioned that used to be most prominent are secondary considerations.
