Re: Commonwealth Games
How can Dan Andrews and the Victorian Government refuse to be transparent on how much they have already spent and how much it cost to rip up the contract?
Surely that is just basic decency and transparency. The Victorian people deserve that as a minimum. Surely.Comment

No doubt some consulting group paid mega dollars has found the costs are actually huge.
Governments have got to stop spending on consultants who inflate their costs and deliver little value.FFC: Established 1883

Re: Commonwealth Games
It's a shame that there isn't more transparency. They are our elected representatives after all, custodians of our tax contributions.

In this case there is no other side. If the Gov says it costs too much then what else can we do - blow another $5 Billion for nothing.

All that has been presented is the Dan Andrews view and everyone is expected to just swallow that.
The Comm Games CEO has provided a different view.Life is to be Enjoyed not EnduredComment

Re: Commonwealth Games
I have zero confidence on the vic state government with the budget now after hearing that. We are in $173 Billion in debt with yearly interest bill of $3.9 billion , expect more taxes to be raised
on another note, I was on Hoodle street today and noticed there was green metal fences running all the way from Johnstone street to Victoria street . Complete waste of money . Only someone off their head would dare cross that street . that is just one example of huge wastage.
7 billion, you would think it was pretty obvious if you could or not afford it ? who were they going to award these building contracts to ? rhetroical question
For example, the Victorian Budget 2020/21 forecast interest expense at $3.9 billion in 2023-24 on $173.4 billion of general government sector borrowings ? while this Budget forecasts interest expense at $5.6 billion in 2023-24.

Re: Commonwealth Games
Well obviously it didn't occur to anyone close to Dan prior to the State Election.
Where is the transparency around the blowout?
Why was this going to cost about 4x the most expensive previously?
There are lots of unanswered questions and the athletes, sporting public and taxpayers all deserve better than they are being asked to accept.Life is to be Enjoyed not EnduredComment

Re: Commonwealth Games
Speaking of problematic big govt funded projects, I did hear something interesting today about Shithole Tinshed Pissant Park, and why there is such a delay in getting stage 58 finished on time and on budget. Apparently Chinese steel was used on the stadium upgrade, but unfortunately it is of such poor quality that it has failed the structural engineering compliance so will have to be ripped up and started again using Australian steel. If this is true, my already warm glow about that particular project has only gotten warmer.

Re: Commonwealth Games
If this leads to the Bulldogs abandoning the Ballarat experiment because Mars stadium wont be upgraded then it is a good decision for mine. Ballarat no, 11 home games at Docklands is the way to go.

Re: Commonwealth Games
Interesting take to say the least. I sincerely hope you're not a small businessman who won a hard-fought tender to provide services for the Comm Games and have lost your entire livelihood overnight, having invested all your finite resources into a signed contract in the mistaken belief that it was watertight.
I also hope you aren't one of the elite athletes training 4 hours a day and 7 days a week for your one shot at glory, only for it to be taken away overnight forcing you to wait 4 long years for another chance.
There will be many such sad stories that will come out in the next few weeks, and they will be heartbreaking to hear."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

However, what they should be doing is running appropriately governed tender processes and completely de-coupling from the partners who run the big firms and hold dep-sec level relationships. Government tenders are very rarely objectively awarded.
I think anyone could see from the outset this was going to end in tears. Whilst it's disappointing for the athletes they can still train to compete, it just won't be in Australia.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment
