    Sheffield Shield 2022/23

The season has kicked off with Western Australia v NSW and 18 year old WA batsman Teague Wyllie becoming the youngest Sheffield Shield centurion since Ricky Ponting in 92/93.

One to watch for the future.

I watched a bit of that innings, he's a talented player.

He's a lovely player to watch and a very confident kid. I'm a bit concerned with the way that he gets trapped on the crease and doesn't really get forward, but is a big talent.

WA might have the most young talent in the country. Wylie, Hardie, Green, Richardson all have a lot of potential.

I like the look of Lance Morris as well. A big boy that bowls over 145kph is going to give anyone trouble. He's one that I think will be around the Australia A squads come the end of the season.

WA have done well in recent years of developing talented players.
Inglis and Phillipe was keeper batsman, Green, Marsh and Hardie as all-rounders and now Morris as a genuine quick.

Just checking cricket.com and Morris and Hardie are running through the NSW batsman with 2 wickets each in the 2nd innings.

Lance Morris ran through the NSW batting line up in the 2nd innings and he got 9 wickets for the match.

The name Lance Morris sounds like a cricketer from 100 years ago.

Yes, a good old fashioned name. I like him as a bowler and he's got that extra pace the selectors would like.

I was a huge wrap on Billy Stanlake (think I might've said some very silly hype stuff on this forum that I quickly need to delete before anyone finds it), so it'll be interesting to see how Morris develops.

Morris reminds me a bit of Chris Tremlett. Not as tall but probably has an extra 10kph. Managing his body will be the challenge at this stage. He's 24 so should be out of the danger zone - you'd hope he plays a full Shield season.

It just gives us a bit of depth to cover Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Boland is to have the likes of Meredith, Neser, Richardson and Morris around the mark.

Great innings by Will Sutherland yesterday, rescued the Vics with his maiden first class century. Not bad considering his previous best was 34 with an average of 14.

Harris in the runs as always, Pucovski a duck unfortunately.

"He [Wyllie] said 'tax accountants don't celebrate when they do their tax return so I shouldn't celebrate scoring a hundred'," chuckled WA captain Sam Whiteman, who spoke to ESPNcricinfo after the match. "He loves batting and is an impressive young man. He feels like he's 28."

How's this from Teague Wyllie? You can see what I mean about him being a confident young boy. He's just become the youngest century-maker in the Shield since Ricky Ponting and he barely raised the bat!

You would recall when a young Michael Clarke was nearing his maiden century, off came the helmet on went the baggy green, once the 100 was scored and the photo opportunities were taken the helmet when straight back on.

A refreshing attitude from Wyllie from my perspective.

Henry Hunt and Wes Ager are doing their best to deny a Victorian win.

Hunt is a good player who puts a lot of value on his wicket plus he has that one other trait that Twodogs values by being sharp in the field. He may not score quickly enough for our National selectors though.

The matched ended up with a draw and Hunt finished on 97no. David Grant didn't make a run of something like 40 deliveries
Vics couldn't get the last 3 wickets and batted too long on the previous day.
