I don't think there is a viable better option at the moment and even though he does have some flaws, I'd think he would do a better job than Clarke and Hussey has some issues with his form anyway.

Sorry but I think Ponting has not only made critical and basic errors but he is also too defensive in the field. I think I could do better... Use my C grade hard wicket captaincy experience...

Pontings batting has been exposed due to the poor performance of Hayden, which has meant Ponting is coming in too early for a third batsman. If the openers get a decent start and take some shine off the ball, then he will also get some runs.

As for his captainancy, he is very conservative and needs to be a bit bolder with his field placings. Maybe he feels he doesn't have the bowlers to warrant a very attacking field?

I 'hate' with a passion the term batter when referring to cricket. It's what you cook fish in as far as I'm concerned!
