    Re: MLB (Baseball)

I never thought I would see the day Ichiro was traded. Just won't seem right to see Ichiro in pinstripes, he's moved to the dark side.

Tigers also made a trade today. We picked up Sanchez & Infante from the Marlins for 3 prospects including the prized pitching prospect Jacob Turner. It makes us a better team now but giving up Turner for a rental leaves me disappointed. Haven't seen Sanchez pitch before so if any posters have let me know if you think its a good get. Happy with Infante as 2nd bas has been a major problem for us. Looks like we have finally turned the corner.

Yeah, a bit surprised to see Ichiro traded, although he hasn't been the player he was for a while now.

Tigers trade is definitely a short term one. Their #1 prospect for half a season of Sanchez and an ok 2nd base. Sanchez is a control guy from what I remember, not blazing speed on his fastball but an ok 4th or 5th starter. Infante is solid in the field and ok with the bat. I like him and he's a clear upgrade over what the Tigers have been putting out there, but they paid a big price.

Thought the Cubs had made a good trade with the Braves for Dempster, but it looks like it's been held up and may not come off.

Been reading a lot of what the tigers fans have to say & its overwhelmingly positive. A few negatives thrown in there but the fans seem excited that Mr. Illitch wants to win now. We seem to have all the pieces to have a real crack at the WS so I'll be watching with great anticipation.

Looks like they are only waiting for Dempster to agree to the trade but then i read he only wants to go to the Dodgers.

Also thanks for the article link you posted a while back as i did find it an interesting read & just backs up your argument last year about closers.

Also did read today that Chris Perez could be on the move to the Giants, so Pestano might get that role in the end anyway.

          Re: MLB (Baseball)

          Update.
Last day of the regular season.
Anfo's Tigers clinch the AL central.Whitesox put a great fight but ran out of gas.
The AL west hotting up , with the much talked about Oakland A's leveling up with one to play.
Wonderful effort from the A's considering they spent 300 mil less in the off season than Texas.
Baltimore Orioles making the post season for the first time in 15 years.
Would have got long odds on the Angels not playing in October.
In the NL wonderful to see the Washington Nationals in the post season.Struggling second half of the season for my Mets. The Giants on the back of Buster Posey have made the post season.
The Reds the dominant team in the NL Central.
Love to see the A's or The O's do well in October.

            Re: MLB (Baseball)

A relief to see my tigers finally get there in the end. I think its more the case of the White Sox grinding to a halt the last 2 weeks then tigers stepping it up a gear. 1 more day before Miguel Cabrera wins the triple crown for the first time in 45 years. I'm hoping that will be enough for him to win the MVP but Mike Trout has had 1 unbelievable rookie season. Fingers crossed.

Its great to see the A's doing so well & an Aussie getting the win & the save today against the Rangers. I'm hoping the A's can win tomorrow morning, Baltimore beat the Rays & the Yankmees lose to the Red Sox. That will put the O's & NY in a tiebreak game & a chance to see the Rangers & Yankees in the wild card play off.

Not confident with the play offs as we really haven't put it together at all this season & we always struggle with those damn Texas Rangers.

Buster Posey has done an amazing job coming back from that horrific injury last year. I'm still amazed that the player running home can smash the catcher as well as the player running to second base can just take out the SS to prevent the double play.

Love to see Texas relegated to the W/C
Just one particular head behind home plate is enough for me .
Buster Posey catches everyday, so one great effort.
Being self indulgent I'd love to see R.A Dickey get the Cy Young.
              One great story.
Great seeing Melbourne Aces own Travis Blackeley going well, am looking forward to watching the post season

Watching the A's and the Rangers game now, it's great to see the A's stadium full & jumping. Will be pulling hard for the O's and A''s in the playoffs.
Cubs finished off an awful season with a walk off win at home.

wow the A's take 3 in a row from Texas to take the division in the last day. What a run from Oakland & hopefully the O's can do the same with the helpof the Red Sox.

Problem is the Red Sox are basically playing their aa team.
Wonderful effort from Oakland, they were 13 back in July !
Unfortunately the evil empire takes the AL east.
I'm on the Cinderella Oakland bandwagon

I'd love the O's to get to the Division Series and at least get to play a couple of playoff games at home. Anyone but the Cards in the NL.

Sad to see Met Killer Chipper Jones bow out.
Big fall from Grace for Texas, looked like having the best record in the AL, to beaten in a Wildcard game. No great love of the Cards either!!

Thought Anfo would be all over the Tigers advancing to the ALCS.
Verlander proving what a gun he is.
Tigers a big chance for mine with that rotation.
The orioles and the evil empire locked at 2 each, not sure but if Sabathia's on the hill for game five then I'd fancy the Yanks.
Oakland, the smallest salary in MLB have been outstanding.
In the NL, Great comeback from the giants being 2 Nil down and winning three on the road.
Hopefully the Nats can take game five from those horrid Cards.

Massive relief to get over the never say die A's. I hoped we could have finished them off earlier after going 2-0 up in the series but Oakland just keep coming at you.
We have the rotation to go all the way but we are struggling in a lot of other departments. Our bullpen is a concern. Benoit has been terrible since the All Star break & nearly came back to haunt us a few times. Valverde has not had the best of seasons either. For some reason he hasn't been throwing that nasty splitter of his this year & hitters are just sitting on that fast ball. Leyland won't deviate from the plan & will always use them in the 8th & 9th. I was just praying JV could pitch a complete game so I didn't have to sweat bullets watching them 2 pitch. Our hitting is a worry as well but we're through so we must have done something right.

How good are those giants? First team in NL history to come back 2-0 & take the series 3-2. Buster Posey with that huge grand slam, what a player.

Hopefully the O's can beat the yanks tomorrow. They have had their chances to win the series but their gun closer blew one yesterday & got smashed in game 1.

The A's are out now so does that mean you will be cheering for the O's?

Anyone bar the Yanks to be honest.
Biggest advantage the O's have is Buck Showalter.
The guy has a scouting report on everyone and gets matchups right.
Can't stand the Cards, so go Nats!!

My interest level in the LCS's just dropped a 1000 fold with those match-ups.

Yet again teams that were borderline average in the season get through to the championship games.
