    ICC World Cup

    Our squad has been named.

    Australia World Cup squad:
Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (v-c), Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Tim Paine, Steve Smith, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson, Cameron White

    Selectors take a gamble

    Some interesting calls there.

How does Hodge miss out ?

    Tait is still injured.

Hope the sellectors have learnt from the Ashes debacle.

Tait and Lee, wow. Steve Smith as well. Where did Hastings come from to get a call up? Bit of a shock that one.

So if Hauritz is picked, why the bloody hell is Doherty playing at the moment?

Doherty playing would suggest he's at least considered no. 2 ODI spinner

          Hastings' selection just baffles me.

The obsession with playing Tait & Lee in this format baffles me.

Steve Smith's role in the team still baffles me (at least he took 2 wickets Sunday)

Dave Hussey getting a recall is the only good move I can find amongst the fringe - I like Tim Paine, but I would've thought there's a batsman more suited to that back up role, especially with fitness concerns over M Hussey.

What has been the point of this lay off period between world cups where we have blooded guys like Ferguson and Marsh if we aren't going to be prepared to play them in big games? I would be leaving out Tait and Smith in favour of Ferguson and Doherty but I do think the selection of Hastings could be important. His cutters and changes of pace will suit sub continental pitches, a role Mckay would've played had he not been injured. We desperately need that holding type bowler to have a good tournament because the other quicks will all leak runs.

I don't mind this selection. He's not a strike bowler but he is a handy player in a squad of 15.

as long as he bats down the order.

Haddin should not be in, his keeping is woeful, Clarke is out of form, can't have both Tait and Lee and Mike Hussey is injured and will not play.

Be surprised to see M. Hussey take guard at any of the world cup matches to be honest. Like the inclusion of Lee, he is bowling well, has been relatively economical and will only get better. Tait should not be coming. Would have S. Clarke and/or Bracken in are they both injured?

I don't mind it either was just surprised by it. I also didn't notice that Hauritz was selected. Why exactly are we playing Doherty at the moment??

Hilditch did mention that they thought Hauritz was suited to bowling in the sub-continent, so perhaps they see Doherty as a better option in Aus.

What do people make of Doug the Rug as a OD bowler? I'm not convinced.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

It's once again a strange mode of selection despite the plausible 'better suited to the sub-continent' reasoning that Hilditich offered.
I would have preferred that they take Doherty instead of Smith because we might very well need two genuine spin bowlers.
