I hope you're right TD. I think you are onto Boof!

.... I've just read Michael Hundredondebut is being called into the squad.

Maxwell finishes on 155 not out against South Africa A.
Not sure Maxwell and Warner are the ones we need to find form with their aggressive batting styles.

Not sure either, but they can't do any worse than the plebs we have in the team at present.

Re: 2nd Test Australia England at Lords

What happened to Australia picking their 6 best batsmen for test cricket, their best 3 quicks, their best spinner and their best keeper/batsman? We've gotten into this mess because we've diverted away from this fundamental selection criteria and continually chop and change. We pick 'sort of' all-rounders who don't really do much of either. We pick 5 specialist openers in our squad and then try to move them all around the order. We chop and change our spinners based on how they will be in 5 years' time, and not how they are performing right now. We tinker with our wicket keeping position and revert to a 35yo when he is not the standout gloveman or batsman in the country, and when his replacement scored a lot of important runs during his tenure.

There was a team that used to do all of the above back in the 90's - they were called England.

We need to go back to basis and select our best 6 batsmen - none of Smith, Hughes, Cowan, Watson or Rogers can definitively claim to be. Pick 2 specialist openers, put our best batsman in at #3 and stop hiding him at #5. Pick 3 other specialist batsmen irrespective of whether or not they can 'bowl a bit'. Pick the best keeper/batsman right now. Pick the best spinner right now. Pick the best 3 pacemen right now. Give them all at least a full series to stake their claim in the team and stop all the chopping and changing. Also don't try and manufacture an all-rounder if one doesn't exist who can command their place in the test team in at least one of the disciplines. We've gone completely arse-about with our selection criteria for as few years now.

All sounds good in theory. Who would you pick right now and in what order?

Watson amazes me, Finn had more runs than him last year, where exactly has he earned a game let alone been indisciplined sent home then given the captaincy next game back !
Haddin has done nothing and taken a young gums position who has showed better figures.
Warner is going to get a game after punching someone in the head and making one score in a game that is irrelevant.
Clarke didn't play a ge leading up to the ashes and is injury prone, hasn't done anything to deserve a spot in this series, and boof says he will pick who is performing ??

As was rather cleverly pointed out by someone in the media yesterday (can't remember who it was), the best 11 South African players are in their Test team, the next best 8 are playing for England, so our 2nds are playing their 3rds!

It is easy to list who doesn't deserve a spot. I put it to you, who does deserve a spot in the batting lineup?

Turned out to be some kind of road anyway, with the south africans making 600+

Clarke is a gun and is an immediate selection if fit.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I'm talking about deserved now , boof said he would only play players in form, Clarke played one game before the test series and I don't think played 7 weeks prior, hardly an in form batsman deserving to be picked.
