Realistically the guys ST Kilda are bringing in , only De Koning is the only top liner worth anything close to the money his been offered .
The rest Leek Aleer, Jack Silvagni and Liam Ryan are B graders , Aleer reminds me of our Khamis , he will be in and out of that Saints team , but will be getting close to 800k a year .
Liam Ryan is 29 and close to the end , his now injury prone , still will be getting around 600 to 700 k a year .
Silvagni has stuggled to keep his place in the Carlton side that was crying out for good players and only struck form after a move to defence where he played good football , but his durability is in question and he will be getting around 800 to 900k a year , no wonder we have captured the attention of Wilkies camp .
We should be offering a million PLUS , not sure the Saints will be offering him over a million , so its up to him does he stay and get payed well unders or does he say i want what im worth ?.

Sorry mate, I was just joking. I'd prefer to always make a preliminary rather than not, but to only convert ten appearances into three grand finals isn't great going. It's not horrible, but not great.

On the maybe bold assumption we are to get Butters, I think if Port have shocking season, thus activating a very high pick as their compo (think 2-4), they might not match. Especially if we have a good enough season for our first pick to be in the late teens.

From their pov it'd be looking at pick 3ish vs maybe three first rounders but they are all 14+.

St Kilda also have Alex Dodson coming through who was a highly-touted junior and good enough to break through for a debut game as a 19-year old ruck. It's way too much money for De Koning but now he's on the hook, I don't think they'll be fighting to keep Marshall.

Sam Draper has told Essendon this morning that he will be leaving as a free agent. But he didn’t nominate his destination - Brisbane still favoured over Adelaide but he didn’t nominate club to the Bombers. Lions have five-year deal with trigger for sixth on the table.

Typically the way the dogs operate, is that we lock in our trades weeks / months in advance similar to our ongoing pursuit of Butters. This year we don't have that target, so i'm expecting an extremely underwhelming trade period. Besides Treloar who fell in our lap, most of our major trades of the last few years have been agreed to well in advance, such as Bruce, Keath, Martin, even Boyd etc.

We don't have the pull that major clubs do to recruit players off only a two - three week runup. All this talk of Wilkie, Butts, Taylor, Erasmus won't pan out because we've only just thrown our hat in the ring late. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I see us picking up 1-2 fringe role players and that's it, another year of saying "we'll focus on the draft" because we've missed out yet again.

It's extremely frustrating. Fantastic new facilities, the best player in the comp, money to spare and still no attraction. Nothing to move the needle next year. My genuine only hope to move us up the ladder next year is some extreme development from our young kids and maybe the new ruck rule helping English become one of the best rucks in the comp. It's not going to come from player movement i'll give you the tip.
