Maybe. Could also be argued he is the mature player we need. Has only played 60 odd games but has been in the system longer than Buss and JOD and is a big body at the peak of his powers in the core strength department.

As Gary mentioned he has good mobility and it appears the ACL hasnt impacted his ability to get across the ground.

Fark mooiiii. It will be interesting to see if these big spending clubs get ahead in the new salary cap economy (unlikely) or crash and burn.

I'd love Zac Bailey at our club but I'm not sure how we could justify him on a bigger contract than Bont.

I like that for 2 reasons. It ups the ante at Brisbane and forces them to pay more. It also signals that Essendon once again has no idea where it’s list is at so they’ll be confined to the depths of hell for years to come.

I think people underestimate how little these shit teams are paying players, remember we have the same salary cap that we have how many close to million dollar players in? We have Marra earning nearly a $mil to shadow box on instagram and it didn’t even effect us. Now look at their list, who are they paying? Who cares if you overpay a little bit to bring in guys like Zac Bailey (who is a stud by the way), it’s either that or up the contract for Parish & Duursma etc, like I know what I’d rather do.

They would be paying roughly 95% of the cap meaning you can bank 5% and pay up to 105%, that’s an extra $1.8mil - they probably wouldn’t structure it like this but just as an example you give that to Bailey as a signing bonus in his first year and his $7.8 mil contract over 6, is now $940k over 5. You have to start thinking of some of these contracts for teams who can front load them as signing bonuses, not a per year figure. There’s no way Essendon are paying Bailey anyway near 1.3 in years 4, 5, 6 etc when they expect to be competing.

Saints similar although the money is not the issue with what they’re doing it’s just they’re going for the wrong players - a ruckman that’s barely better than the one they have, 2 defenders when they’re key defenders is already one of their stronger positions and their midfield is cooked
