Its not his primary role to scout or advise the bean counters to manage salaries or juggle a list his son (possibly sons soon) are on.
As far as I know. I assume there are ways of recusing oneself from the process if there is a conflict of interest but how you do that when the rest of the list is effected by your decisions isn't clear, at least to me.

He's contracted until the end of 2029 so a 4 year deal for a good but often injured player is a big risk when you tack on what Essendon will want for him

A guy with his injury history four years is incredibly generous.

The Aints are playing a risky game, top ending your list doesn't tend to work well.

Funny thing is if they had just offered Josh Battle the same contract last year they probably could have kept him instead (although there's also a chance he just fled the sunken ship).

Apparently, Saints offered Battle more money than the Dawks.

Just on the saints how quickly it is forgotten they have gone down this path before.

2018 and 2019 they "hit gold" apparently by bringing in Dan Hannaberry, Dan Butler, Dougal Howard, Paddy Rider, Bradley Hill among others.

I remember a description on Woof once of Justin Sherman, stating he had pace and uses it to run into the opposition.

I wound up wearing a pair of Justin's footy boots thanks to a relative who played alongside him at the lions at the time, and that's almost exactly how I played my footy too. Maybe it was the boots....
