I hope this isn't some BS throw at the stumps to be seen to be doing something, and instead is a behind the scenes full club courting of Wilkie and his family, providing a compelling case for him to join our club and be part of something special, paying him what he is really worth.
Sedat is feels a little reactionary to me, even with there SOS pitch it felt like we were behind the eight ball from the start.
The biggest trade period of Sammy Powers career and the biggest summer of Bevo's career so far coming up.
Amid continued interest from Victorian clubs who won't take no for an answer, Port Adelaide has today reaffirmed categorically it won't be trading Zak Butters under any circumstances.

Whether it is or isn't reactionary, we have captured the attention of an a-grade player (and his management) in an absolute area of urgent need. We need to drive home this interest with a full-club approach to selling the dream to him and his family and management.
Leek Aleer has just nominated St Kilda - this bloke cannot defend and he's going to walk in and command $200k a season more than Wilkie for at least the next 2 years. JSOS is on more than Wilkie off the back of a dozen good games in defence. Wilkie has every right to feel aggrieved, disrespected and under-appreciated by his current club.
Sam Power and the club need to get serious and get ruthless. If this is nothing more than a bit of kite-flying and media clickbait posturing, and if our club truly still believes that we are "only a couple of goals" behind the rest of the top 8, they (and us supporters) are going to be in for a very unfulfilling 2026.

I remember the giants saying the same thing about Tom Boyd.
But I don't expect Butters to move. He'll see out his contract.
So realistically: (not a biased woofer like me view) is Butters going to cost us? Whats the cost difference this year vs next end of contract year? 2x 1st rounders?

Given we're having a go at Wilkie, there's no way we're also able to have a go at Butters this year. He'll stay at port next season imo.
Next year though, it's gonna be draining. The talk of where he'll end up will become exhausting. We'll be competing with the likes of Geelong and Hawthorn and you can just feel what the outcome will be.

Hawthorn are going hell for leather at Zach Merrett right now behind the scenes. They aren't interested in waiting around 12 months to improve their list in an area of need.

Yeah it's why I'm hoping both them and Geelong land some other big midfielder on big $$$ this year.
Although with Geelong it probably wouldn't matter with the endless cap.

Next year he is a free agent (thanks Axeman, Restricted)
