Freo pair confirm trade requests, nominate new homes

FREMANTLE pair Will Brodie and Liam Reidy have confirmed trade requests to Port Adelaide and Carlton respectively.

As previously reported on AFL.com.au, Brodie will head to the Power, where he has a close relationship with new head coach Josh Carr, who used to be an assistant at the Dockers.

Reidy has requested a move to the Blues, who are chasing rucks following Tom De Koning's decision to join St Kilda as a free agent.

Brodie did not play a senior game this season, while Reidy - who is behind Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy in the ruck pecking order - played just once.

"We respect the requests from Liam and Will to seek trades in a hope to get more senior opportunities at AFL level," Dockers footy boss Joe Brierty said.

"Will is obviously contracted for 2027, so we will work through that during the trade period to facilitate outcomes for both the players and the club."

Brodie played 24 games for the Dockers in 2022, including two finals, but has since fallen out of favour. He played just five games in 2023 and none in the past two seasons.

He previously played 25 games for Gold Coast, who drafted him with Pick 9 in 2016.

Reidy has played just three senior games since being drafted in the 2022 rookie draft.

        Herald Sun:

Callum Wilkie is not interested in the Dogs’ million dollar a year offer but would like a new contract which reflects his worth.

Not interested in the offer from the Western Bulldogs but will use it to leverage a better contract out of my current employer. Ok.

Can't blame him on the one hand, but he should consider the way he has been treated to date.

The article itself sounded like a SOS puff piece but I also found it strange the Wilkie comment was just added in to it. Haven't seen a specific article/post about it which you'd think a journo would do for clicks.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. If the Hawks have a serious dip at Merrett, it puts them out of the running for Butters. If Merrett's management is genuine about considering the Dogs, we're in the race for an absolute superstar who immediately makes our centre square rotation the best in the comp.

Merrett is an absolute elite player at the top of his game who doesn't get mentioned with the games best because he plays for the most insipid organisation of the last 25 years.

Having said that, it's another I wouldn't want us wasting time on given he's contracted and his worth to Essendon. It would cost two first rounders, and we just have too many other needs - plus we need to keep our powder dry if we're in the race for Butters.

Shame though, because he would be brilliant alongside Bont.

                        We have no pull sadly.

Liam Jones wants to play elsewhere next season.

Actually, Butters is a free agent next year isn't he?

In that case, we should go hard for Merrett and look to plug our defensive holes with shrewd options given there's no 'stars' available in this space.

As Libba and Treloar phase out, adding Merrett and then Butters would be mouth watering.

Gonna be pretty funny if he performs for another team, feel like his downfall and poor form in the vfl was well overplayed tbh at the end of the year, think he could have played a role for sure, but we know what happens when Bevo puts a line through you.

Hopefully we land one of our targets so we don’t have to roll out the same unit again whilst we watch LJ wind back the clock elsewhere

I think restricted. So Port can force a trade
