Glad we didn't get Keane. Anyone watch him during the finals? Was a complete disaster.

Last night Cal Twomey said we had a crack at some other quality key backs, he just wasn't sure who or wasn't saying.

I remember he was poor in at least one of those finals I watched however by all reports he was pretty good this season and was preferred to Butts who many thought we should have chased harder. Probably not fair to judge him solely on his last 2 games.

          All academic now anyway.

Re: us chasing Keane, not sure if I'm a) happy with our ambitious approach or b) utterly horrified at the prospect

            a) based on H&A form
            b) based on finals

Landing Keane would have been difficult for me after I bathed him over those two finals....

All I’m taking from this to be completely honest is that all of this work was done in the offseason, which isn’t how the AFL world works anymore. Clubs are wining and dining these players 2 years out, why are we only throwing darts at contracted players in the offseason.

Im mindful that Regan is new to the role and Power may have had his hands full across too many roles over the past year so will give the benefit of the doubt and the comments from Regan suggesting these conversations have been started with players which will drag into future years, that hopefully we understand how you need to approach trades. I hope this isn’t to do with Bevo being too proud to meet a contracted player mid season

Should we not be having a big old crack at Ah Chee if he goes PSD? Tell him we’ll match the Crows offer (which we can definitely do) on a year contract, give us your best season and if you dont settle in and still want to move to SA at the end of the year we’ll accomodate that request no dramas.

Clubs need to get bolder & more ruthless to compete in this day and age where the tables are stacked against you. What’s there to lose here really? We get a good player in a position of need for just cash, in which we’re stacked, and then worst case scenario a free 2nd round pick next year.

It’s so normal in other sports for players to move for a year or even 6 months to plug a gap

Also clubs like WCE with their hand out for a priority pick, yet refuse to take Starcevich through the PSD. And will refuse to improve the list by taking Ah Chee in PSD for free

Like Utilise what you’ve got before running to the AFL for a hand out ffs, the player movement space in AFL needs to grow up big time. Oh poor lil Merrett couldn’t break his signed contract when he was desperate to get to Hawks, boo hoo

Curnow at least understood he has a contract so he’s simply going to offer up 3 teams he was happy to get to, and one of them played ball which is all he needed. **** contracted players backing their club into a hole by demanding to go to 1 club and giving them all the leverage.

Why would he sign a 1 year contract at a team and city he doesn't want to go to versus what I'm assuming was a 4 or 5 year deal at Adelaide? It's security for him if he were to suffer a serious injury.

In all likelihood he will refuse to meet with any other teams, refuse a medical and no team can take that risk for a player with possibly $1 million on their head initially.

So those who think we did nothing are correct?

To be brutally honest non of us really know for fact what we did or didn't do as far as courting players from other clubs , no1 in the inner circle of the club is gonna come out publicly and say yeah yeah we have been dinning and whining so and so , thoes things are kept secret for a good reason ,so to come out and criticise the club for sitting on their hands is a bit rough , sure i'd love it if we knew who we target but that's not a reality these days with all the covert stuff going on between clubs and managers , so maybe we should keep our powder dry until we know for fact that the club does nothing in the recruiting field . Until we become a destination club this will happen every year .
The recruting team are hired to do a job and mangagment of the club must have reviews of work processes and procedure and like any employer if an employee isnt preforming they are let go , so as much as it's good fun reading what we did or didn't do here , non of us really know the truth , so i'll leave it to the professionals to do the actual work and us to bitch about it , just saying .
