Their first round picks over the past two years are (I think) Venables and Brander - so that is who I suggested. English was a (late) first round pick in the same draft as Venables.

Like it or not, if English says he wants to go "HOME" (and remember, he IS NOT FROM PERTH so I cant see it), then an offer kind of like the ones I have outlined is what we should be pushing for.
Personally I think the potential of English is worth an established player. The dogs should move if there is a chance he’ll leave in the next 3-5 years when he enters him prime. IMO he is either a 250 game player for us or not worth it as we’ll build him into a gun. His first 2 years remind me of Grundy in his ability at ground level, coverage of the field and decision making. He’s a bit (a lot) sighter than grundy but probably a little quicker.

Would be after a good draft pick as well as their young talent, or a ready made midfielder.

I'd think if WCE were to offer up Venables and their Gaff compensation we'd have to look at it. You can never have enough quick, goal kicking midfield talent in my view and while I'd be highly reluctant to give up English, having a highly competent ruck isn't the only way of winning midfield ascendancy in games.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Can I tweak that and see if you're happy, on an assumption Gaff picked us. WCE will force a trade on Gaff I think. They offer Venables for English, they give us some salary paid on Venables for a fairer trade. They agree to let Gaff to come to us via free agency, not trade. We use that extra salary on helping secure Gaff against what North can offer.

Dogs: Venables, Gaff, (some salary paid on Venables)
WCE: English, Pick 16-19 Gaff Compo (less some salary which they have free from Gaff leaving)

That's overs our way. I'm not saying otherwise. But do they rate him that highly? They then don't need to invest in Roughead either. If Gaff picked us and came via free agency we retain pick 7. But lose one hell of a talent. You could complicate it again if Stevo is right about Adams looking for a trade back there. Seems a lot of players are in the media sights between the two clubs.

Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion

Reading the news in the off-season (AFL season is over for me!) and either we are the 'master of disguise' and keeping our leads as a secret like the national treasure, I haven't seen anyone mentioned in the same sentence with the Western Bulldogs. Only Tim English but that's a trade away which none of us would like to see.

Lynch - Tiger, Gaff, Polec -NM, McGovern - Blue, Shiel - Bomber ...

With our build-up/clean-up, I believe something big may happen again but why aren't anyone talking about us as a destination club?

Maybe Kelly to us is in the making (I am expecting BT to go to work with this and make it happen) so that we can enjoy final footy again next year.

The value of English is a bit of a tricky one. I can understand why he slipped to late first round without any exposed form at the highest level, but looking back on the 2016 draft how would it be called now now he's had some development and looks to be a gun in the making?

Our outs from Stevo on Ch7 and his Twitter could be also Dahl (Geelong), Roughy (WCE or Saints) & Adams (WA, most likely WCE). Being he's the most connected in the media to our club, that's a few out. It would be nice to get a really good one in.

No doubt he bolts up that order. I'm in the don't trade camp, but I always defer to something Dennis Pagan said in a trade week. Essentially something like: we listen to all offers including on Carey. But if a club isn't going to part with 5 top 10 picks, we won't be trading him. But we listen to all offers.

If WCE made an irresponsibly generous trade to us, then we listen hard. But for me its got to be too good to refuse by WCE. Anything else is them posturing when he's out of contract in years time.

Go Dogs has been keen on him from his draft year, I think we could find a spot for him but I'd pass.

St Kilda have apparently offered Jared Polec a 5 year contract at 800k a season. I must have missed the memo about him becoming Dusty.

It would be funny to see Norf miss out on yet another trade target - they may as well put that war chest into a long-term interest bearing account.

Mitch Honeychurch would get a $500k payday at North right now.

Stevo tweeted GCS interest in HC. I imagine for a very late pick or as a DFA.

Saints chasing both Polec and Hannebury, yet they don't have much to offer back other than pick 4.

I think their list is in deep poo.

GWS were going to take him as a DFA last year, until we wrongly forced Cloke out of his contract to keep HC. Hopefully we've learned our lesson to let him now move on for the benefit of our club, and for HC to breathe new life into a footy career on life support. To quote a former prime minister, It's Time.
