Re: 2018 AFL -Trade Rumours and Discussion

Billing’s would be a good player in a good side.
Saints are terrible at development as is Carlton.
I think billing’s could blossom with us.
Just need to do due diligence on his mind set and dedication.

If we got Billings that would mean we would have to go hard at Josh Kelly just so we would have picks 1,2,3 and 4 from the 2013 draft.
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

I agree with you completely! He would be a great addition to our side. A skilful, lovely kicking little forward who could roam around at Schache and Boyd’s (please god play Boyd in the fwd line 50% of next year w English) crumbs and play a loose running forward. He has little currency now too but likely the saints are going to want an absolute premium for him.

If we think our goal kicking is bad now just wait until we add Billings! Kicked 14.19 from 40 shots this year at 35%! I would be interested if the price is right but I reckon the Saints will want a first round pick and I couldn't justify that for Billings.

What's with players re-signing and then wanting to go home? In hindsight we should have shipped Adams when he got homesick last time and his currency was at it's highest. Further injuries and form since then has diluted his worth. Does West Coast need him - they already have 2 very good intercept marks in McGovern and Barrass?

I think part of the Saints problems with Billings is forcing him into being a forward.

Billings is going to be an absolute gun. Sure he had an ordinary year, but heaps of players have that. I think he's going to end up playing more midfield time too, he's what we need.

He'd cost us our pick seven. I'd probably do it.

I'd be ok to take the punt on him despite his exposed flaws but I'd want something back in return for pick 7. Maybe a swap of their second and our third pick.

He can only play midfield given his goal kicking and he hasn't shown he has the tank for that yet, so there's a reasonable gamble there. Obviously I wouldn't back us to improve his goal kicking to allow him to be a forward/mid.

That's probably not unreasonable, though I just had a look at the provisional draft order, St Kilda's position is dire.

I see him as having the potential to emulate Sidebottom.

Billings? Isn’t Sidebottom greatest strength his gut running?

I don’t associate that with Billings.

I'm thinking more a crafty half forward. A poor mans Robbie Gray. I can't see him spending much time in the midfield over the next 3 years and I'm loathe to put him any closer to goal than a high half forward. He's at his most dangerous as an opportunist forward his downfall is his set shot kicking.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Indeed! Sorry I should've been clear I meant swapping next year's picks.

Yep, that would work for me as well.

As an aside, St Kilda find themselves in a genuine pickle. They don't have mid to high level talent that's either ageing or duplicated on their list that they could trade out for early second round picks, and they desperately need to bring talent in whilst only having one draft pick in the first three rounds.

They also need some experienced genuine talent to help them get up the ladder next year.

What can they do to improve their situation?

I must be on my lonesome but a big no to Billings.

He's a finisher who goes missing under pressure, and modern football is about pressure. Add to that he's a woeful kick for goal and you have someone who can't finish but doesn't win his own ball who after years in the system looks set to never have the tank to spend decent minutes in the midfield.

He's only attracting interest as a former pick #3, which means the Saints will want a premium on any trade.

Go big on a Gaff / Wingard / Shiel even though they are hard to get, otherwise nab a Richmond fringe or two (we're linked to a few on their forwards who would cost very little) and hit the draft with pick 7.
