CARLTON favourite Sam Docherty will make a remarkable return for Saturday night's elimination final against Brisbane, just 183 days after rupturing his ACL earlier this year.

The Blues confirmed Docherty's recall on Tuesday following an impressive comeback from the third ACL injury of his career, one of a series of strong inclusions expected for coach Michael Voss' side this weekend.

Docherty hurt his knee during the team's dramatic Opening Round victory against the Lions, with Carlton initially expecting its spiritual leader to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

His last three games all against Brisbane. Prelim last year, round 1 this year and now Elimination final

Quick turnaround for ACL - quicker than Smith

On the surface it does seem a little rushed and a hell of a risk for a player in his twilight.

I sure as hell hope we get a huge return for Smith- I will spew up if we end up having to take Geelong's late first. Would much rather risk playing him in the finals if that is all we are in line for.

See I think it's the exact opposite - less of a risk for a 30 year old near the end than a 23 year old. If Baz had re-signed then I could understand if we took the risk. Given he's 99.99% out the door I think we have made the right decision. Whatever we get it would be significantly less if he suffered another serious injury. We also have to recognise the chances of 2021 finals series Smith suddenly reappearing were slim to none.

              Concussion Article

Thought this was a good although sobering read:

              Excerpt:

              “Do helmets prevent concussions?

The short answer, according to brain injury specialists, is no.

This is because helmets don't lessen the energy transferred to the brain. Instead, they help prevent "cauliflower ears" and superficial lacerations.”
              Josie :)

Do you think it will inhibit Petracca in the future? i mean i know ribs heal but a cracked rib in the same area within 12 months of the pervious injury , just might have him thinking twice about the heavy contact after what he went through.

I guess it depends on how badly it is cracked.

Port Adelaide forward Todd Marshall has ruptured his Achilles tendon at pre-season training, putting his 2025 campaign at risk.

The 26-year-old’s luckless run with injuries continued after he suffered the serious injury at Alberton Oval on Monday early on in the Power’s session.

Marshall suffered the injury when he was changing direction in one of three small sided games being run at the time.

That's a bad injury to get anytime but especially this time of the year. He's a player who's promised a lot but hasn't quite delivered.

Carlton hopes running machine Sam Walsh will be fit for round 1 after suffering a hamstring strain at training on Monday.
The Blues co-vice-captain will be out of action for the next month after the injury, with scans today revealing the extent of the blow.
He will not be back to full fitness for at least a month but with still 58 days until a round 1 meeting with Richmond, the Blues plan for Walsh to line-up in the season opener.

Carlton has been hit with multiple injury setbacks in pre-season, with Charlie Curnow undergoing minor knee surgery before Christmas after starting the summer with a sore ankle.

Winger Blake Acres is recovering from back surgery, and Alex Cincotta will miss the start of the season with a hip injury.
Walsh had aimed to up his renowned running power this pre-season under new Blues fitness boss Rob Inness.
“I think the biggest thing for me is getting that full pre-season under my belt,” Walsh said in December.

“I do that by putting in the work and listening to my body, which I have been. And from there I really want to get after my power running.”

Walsh didn’t miss a game in his first two AFL seasons but has dealt with a back issue since then, while missing four games in late 2023 due to a hamstring injury.

I wouldn't worry about Walsh , his a machine and yeah a few parts of that machine have broken down , but he just produces he did it after being out for numerous weeks with that back complaint, but when he came back with little or no preseason he didn't miss a beat and from memory i think it was against us at the MCG ( I maybe wrong ) , picking up plenty of the ball , iv read where carlton people argue that Curnows knee trouble is very minor and he will be cherry ripe come the opening round , only time will tell .

We haven't played Carlton at the MCG since 2017 (Lewis Young's first game when we all thought he was going to be star). Their MCG home games tend to be against the big clubs and we are always consigned to Marvel. I do agree that Walsh seems to be able to come out after compromised pre-seasons and still play at a really high standard. He hasn't played a round 1 game since 2021!
