The incident didn't seem to be as black and while to me as it is obviously too you.

In my opinion it happens a lot when a player is late to mark and they just push the player in front of them.

I'd watched it twice before my reply. It should be looked at but I can't draw the 'dog act' conclusion you have.

Maybe a harsh comment, but players must be accountable for their actions and something like this is a very dangerous act.

Charlie Curnow ruled out for at least the first two games. Hopefully that extends to three games, or he plays underdone, as we play them in round 3.

I think it is dangerous but I also don't think Ginbey pushed him with the intent of hurting him.

Maybe no intent of hurting, but pushing a player into a pack can cause serious consequences and now the kid has a fractured Jaw.

It should come under duty of care like a dangerous tackle. Some guys get rubbed out for a good tackle but failed to stop a persons head hitting the ground. A push like this is worse than a good tackle so duty of care should come into it at all times when a player gets injured

I don't always agree with the dangerous tackle rulings, but I do agree with you that if they're suspending players for tackles with the 'duty of care' reasoning then an act like Ginbey's (even though I don't think it was malicious) should have resulted in a ban.

Once a player is injured there will always be some who overreact and call for suspensions.
I'm not sure Gibney breached his duty of care and like you I don't believe what he did was malicious but it certainly needs to be reviewed.

AFL to extend SSP window in wake of pre-season injuries

After clubs fumed at the SSP window’s Friday closure following two shocking weekend injuries, the AFL is set to offer some sweet relief.

The AFL is expected to reopen the supplementary selection period for a brief period to allow Melbourne and Carlton to add two replacement players.

The Herald Sun understands the league is making moves to extend the SSP period by a short period this week after canvassing views around the industry including rival clubs on the matter.

It will allow the Demons to add former Eagle Jai Culley in place of injured defender Andy Moniz-Wakefield and Carlton to replace gun midfielder Jagga Smith.

An announcement could come as early as Monday afternoon.

The two players went down on Saturday to season-ending knee injuries on Saturday, one day after the SSP deadline had closed on Friday afternoon.

If the window did not reopen, the two clubs would have been left one short on their lists until the midseason draft when they could be replaced.

But it appears the clubs have successfully pressed their case to extend the deadline by at least one day to allow the clubs to add replacement players on Monday.

It is understood the AFL was open to extending the window considering the severe nature of the two season-ending injuries on Saturday.

The two clubs have been in contact with the AFL on Sunday and Monday in the wake of the injuries.

The clubs’ strong view was that the deadline should not fall until after every club had played one unofficial practice match, finishing on Saturday afternoon.

North Melbourne took on Melbourne and Carlton played St Kilda on Saturday, leaving them vulnerable to being one short on the list until the midseason draft.

Moving the deadline until Monday would mean every club has had the same opportunity to add to their list after playing one scratch match each.

Rival clubs contacted by the Herald Sun were supportive of the move, saying the playing field should be even for all clubs and that the players being added were likely depth players.

Would not surprise me one bit if Carlton jag a guy called Brew . ( bit of a play on words there haha).

WEST Coast young gun Reuben Ginbey has escaped suspension for a push that resulted in a fractured jaw for Richmond No.1 draft pick Sam Lalor, but Adelaide veteran Brodie Smith has copped a ban for his bump on Port Adelaide's Christian Moraes.

Ginbey pushed Lalor into a marking contest, causing him to collide with Eagles SSP signing Sandy Brock in their match simulation against the Tigers at Mineral Resources Park last week.

The 20-year-old wasn't punished for the incident, meaning he is free to line up in the Eagles' round one match against Gold Coast.

The Tigers' prized recruit was concussed in the heavy collision and
